I may be wrong, which wouldn't be a shock
But I do think some are underplaying how much of an improvement in the squad we are going to need. League 1 to Champ is a million miles away from Champ to Prem. |
So you don't think KM is capable of coaching players like Taylor to be Prem level?
Also Broadhead who KM has said previously he's more than capable of playing at Prem level

Its not about being thinking is he capable of course he is. But that doesn't mean every player can become a prem player. Some will. Some might fail some might not get the chance. But for me. 25 year old who I thought was coming in to replace luongo but continued to be a bit part.. I don't see him as part of a prem midfield but we will see.
As I said on broadhead I'm 50/50 on him. Prime broadhead absolutely. But he's been very hit and miss this year.
I agree KM will improve players. He'll try and adapt players, but this squad will need top top level quality. [Post edited 8 May 18:01]

If a top quality keeper is available and Kieran wants to improve that department (better teams than us have done that to better keepers than Hladky or Walton- see Ramsdale at Arsenal), then you'd think that either Hladky or Walton would go to make space. Re Taylor: it does look slightly strange looking in from the outside that we seem to have paid decent money for a player whose preferred position is one that McKenna doesn't favour. But then, to sell him would seem that the club made a mistake buying him. Whatever potential he showed is still there. So I doubt that will happen.
Regarding Luongo: I think he would be worth more to the squad than we could get by selling him.
And re Ahadme: Even injury-hit loans have indicated something that, if it came good, would render it foolish to sell him just for the peanuts he would go for. [Post edited 8 May 20:24]

I'd move on players who have consistently been on the periphery this season : Ladapo, Donacien, Ball, Camara, Ahadme and Jackson. Discussions would also have to take place with Walton and Harness, as to whether they prefer regular first team football or playing a bit part in the Premiership.
Baggott, Humphreys and El Mizouni are all worth keeping, as they have significant potential and we need to find Championship loan moves for them to further accelerate their development. All 3 could provide a nice buffer, if we don't survive our first season up.
Tuanzebe and Hladky should definitely have their contracts renewed.
I think (and fully agree) that we'll see 4-5 players through the door, as opposed to 'Nottingham Forrest' style sweeping changes. Shrewd and tactical recruitment is the name of the game...similiar transfers to Davis, but at a higher price point and with even greater upscale. [Post edited 9 May 8:14]

No-one should retain their place by default otherwise it negates the point of pre-season. Harness and Walton will be on a level playing field should KM wish to retain them. | | | |

Although we did pretty well against parachute payment teams except Leeds when we played Fulham although we fielded an under strength team the gulf between us and them came through. Against premier opposition excluding the obvious one's that we believe will depart there are a few that finished this current season that I maybe see as if not being replaced may see themselves as next season's fringe players. Players such as Woolfy, Loungo and even Chappers. I think McKenna will give them all a chance but recruitment may mean players that are brought in won't just be bought to make up the numbers. | | | |

Personally think Baggott is one worth hanging on to, albeit loaned out for the forseeable. Lots of potential there still.
Might be worth loaning out Al Hamadi too if a Champs level team want him.
Even if players like these aren't going to be utilised in the prem this season, they may be the stars of our 25/26 Championship campaign, should there be one. [Post edited 9 May 14:45]
