More Bloody Play-Offs

Frightening news has emerged that Town may yet face play-offs this season, should the Blues finish equal with Leeds. The Premier League has confirmed that if the sides' records are the same at the end of the season a one game play-off would settle who entered the Champions' League.

At the moment Town are three points ahead with Leeds having a game in hand. Town have a two goal advantage in the goal difference stakes with the Blues on +15 and Leeds on +13.

An FA Premier League spokesperson said: "There is provision in the rules for this sort of thing if it affects the title, relegation or qualification for Europe. If Ipswich and Leeds end the season with the very same records there will be a play-off at a neutral ground, at a date and time to be decided by the Premier League board."

Town fans were hoping that evelation to a division which doesn't have play-offs would mean an end to the run which saw the Blues play in the First Division version for four consecutive years. No escape is there?

Ex-Town star Kieron Dyer has been involved in a minor car crash. The £20 million rated player received only minor injuries when his Mercedes hit a Vauxhall Cavalier outside Newcastle's Chester-le-Street training ground. The other driver received minor head injuries.

Town stand to make cash if, as heavily rumoured, Dyer moves from St James' Park. The midfielder has already been in the news this month for his driving exploits after he was stopped for speeding not far from Newcastle on the A1(M).

His club said in a statement: "Newcastle United can confirm that Kieron Dyer was involved in a minor road accident outside the Chester-le-Street training ground. As far as the club are aware, other than a few minor cuts and bruises, both drivers were unhurt."
