Player of the Year Voting Gets Under Way
Player of the Year Voting Gets Under Way
Thursday, 21st Mar 2024 09:15

Voting for the Official ITFC Supporters Club’s men’s Player of Year award is now under way, while voting for the women’s gong starts on Saturday ahead of their game at Portman Road against Chatham Town.

Voting for the men’s Player of the Year, which was first awarded in 1973 and won by Conor Chaplin last season, is now up and running on the Supporters Club’s website along with a new award, Portman Road Moments, a chance for fans to select an iconic moment from home games this season, which replaces the Ultimate Members Award as that membership category no longer exists. They close at midnight on Wednesday 27th March.

For the women's award, voting will be conducted by a ballot in the Fanzone before Saturday’s match with both Supporters Club committees in the marquee. Votes can be cast between 1.15pm and 2.30pm.

The awards will be presented on Saturday April 13th. The Academy and Women's Player of the Year gongs will be handed out before the match, along with the Irene Davey Award, dedicated to the memory of the Supporters Club’s former patron, who died earlier this year, and will be presented by a member of Irene’s family, while the Men's Player of the Year and Portman Road Moments will be made at full-time.

Genuinely feels wrong to vote for a player of the year this season.
Pretty much all have been outstanding in one way or another & a real team effort.

Can they all share it?

Omari, Morsy, hdlaky…..it’s got to be one of those three but with 8 possibly 11 games left seems bonkers to have to decide before we play anymore of those games…..

But then again if broady scores 8 more goals and then scores the winner at wembley….lol….
Too early to vote and too tough

Has to be Morsy,he's the only one who is a consistent 7/8 out of 10 every week.

For me , Its Morsy all day long .

He's a constant 8-9/10 every game. Without him in the team , we are far less effective and threatening. He's the catalyst, the engine, the leader, the driving force and physical presence. He's getting my vote any way ...

Gone with Morsy, as ArnieM says he's regularly consistent. For the moment I've gone with Leifs goal against Bristol City simply for the disbelief of that crazy game and the limbs that ensued. Felt wrong not to vote for Wes's goal but that will win goal of the season for sure anyway.

It is one of those years its really hard to pick out because the whole team has been outstanding. Did you honestly think last year that Burgess and Hladky would play such a prominent role 'cos i didnt. Leif has been absolutely outstanding and such a very important member of the side, he's my runners up. But as I have said before and Arnie M says above, its Sam Morsy, it was also Morsy last year, he is the heartbeat and I hope he can keep playing 'til he's 40. One of our best ever signings IMHO and thank you Mr Cook!

There have been some really good performances from a number of different players, in my mind it’s going to be very difficult to decide who is going to become runner up out of Hladky, Hutchinson & Davis.

Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season there is only one clear winner in my mind and that’s Morsy, very rarely below an 8 out of 10 every week for me. He is the ITFC equivalent of Roy Keane, might not be the most technically gifted player but has such a consistent presence and impact on our performances. He could be destined to share a pedestal with Mick Mills and Matt Holland.

I always find these kind of awards odd. Voting for player of the season at a time when the most crucial 8 games remain. Say someone does something outstanding for the next 8 games.

It’s the same as pundits getting asked to call MoM at 85 mins in a dour 0-0. They name a defender obviously and then striker from the other side scores a brilliant brace and yet the centre back he’s kippered twice in injury time has inexplicably been award MoM.

Utterly stupid way of doing things and so cannot bring myself to vote

Morsy for me all day.
He holds the team together, simple as that.

Another vote here for Morsy, the most consistant performer by far over the season, certainly not the same team without him !!

Has to be the Egyptian King

But have to agree with the majority, very hard to pick a player this year.

Im involved in this and all I would say is that I agree totally with the comments. Sadly tradition determines it's done at the back end of the season in question. The nature of voting schedules and the logistics makes it difficult. Im wondering whether fans would prefer it done on Open day in the summer or at the first game of the season because I don't see an easy answer. I am happy, however, to take any comments forward for next year as Secretary for the OSC and email me with your thoughts contact@itfcsupporters.co.uk
Just for context, the football writers POY are done in March so obviously they have the same issues

Could be a number of players. Morsy for me, when he plays well we look unstoppable. Incredibly consistent.

I just feel like people have such high expectations of Morsy that the majority don't notice how well he is playing. He rarely has a performance that stands out because he is usually outstanding.

There are so many this season and the standout feature has been the strong team spirit, fighting for each other. If i have to pick one, it is someone who is the key to the backbone of the team, the one who does the hard graft to turn the tide in our favour, the one who goes in hard when he has to, Sam Morsey. For me, he is this teams Mick Mills, or Matt Holland.
