League One Football?
Written by wadey on Friday, 1st Mar 2013 06:00

I've been a ITFC fan for over 20 years (since I was old enough to fit in a kit, that I wore with pride everyday without fail, shorts and socks too!), and I've had a season ticket since 2002.

My favourite times during that period are without doubt the Darren Bent/Shefki Kuqi era. Free-flowing football, tons of goals, even from midfield and defence in Tommy Miller, Jason De Vos, Richard Naylor. Those were the days, literally!!!

I admit, I was one of the fans who wanted Jim Magilton out. I loved him as a player but I thought he was too inexperienced and I was under the 'illusion' that with our new found wealth, we could get an experienced manager, and success would be guaranteed. But I will admit, no manager has the passion of Super Jim!

Since Marcus Evans bought our club, our football has been boring, too many players have worn the shirt without pride, and two wrong managers were put in charge.

I am really getting fed up of, not even mediocre, football. The past five years has been a complete downer and a waste of time and money! I'm so desperate to see us winning matches comfortably again, would I be so sad to see us relegated?

The chance for us to maybe/finally win more games than we lose in a season, the chance to add another trophy, albeit a minor one, to our cabinet. I am so bored at Portman Road lately, would League One be so bad?

I never want us to be relegated, and I really would be gutted if it happened, but if we ran away with the League One title it would all be forgotten.

I know nothing is guaranteed in football but is it a risk worth taking to bring some joy to our faces? A chance for the club to drastically lower the prices and for us to gain some new fans that can afford a day out at Portman Road?

On a positive note let's stay up and walk the Championship title next season! If it's gonna be another boring year, then so be it, whatever league.

The thing is, how bad we are at the moment, would we come straight back up?

Yes one or two teams have "run away with the League One title" but there have been more that have struggled to get back to the Championship

No brainer for me!

Survive in the Championship this season, however we can, and then let MM build from next. Much easier to do that than try to get promoted from League 1. I know some have done it in only one season - most dont!

MM is the first proper manager we have had since Royle in my view so if we stay up I think things will improve greatly.

Be careful what you wish for. if we got relegated the rebuilding (in my opinion) would beging AGAIN. Players would leave, what would be left with, L1 quality, to compete in another very competitive division. I think we've already turned a corner, we need to stay where we are and build. Think of us as a beat up, half derelict house... the last 2 builders and architects the property owner bought in have been poor, they've not got the work done, and the property is still in a poor state, but it's salvageable still and the potential is still there. If we continue on the housing rebuild analogy, MM is a good builder, he's got experience and has a team of builders who can get this project sorted and where the owner wants it to be (whether thats for resale or to keep). back on football terms, If we went down, players go, we struggle to attract people, and we're no better off and in a less lucrative poorer leauge. We're already rebuilding, going down would be a massive step backwards if you ask me.
