Lower League Transfer Targets
Written by Edmunds5 on Monday, 26th May 2014 17:18

It's that time of year again, players linked here there and everywhere, some that seem very likely, such as Didier Drogba being set to join Ipswich after the World Cup.

Anyway, here are 10 players from the lower leagues that could potentially be on the move this summer.

1). Dele Ali - Milton Keynes Dons, Age 17: Young starlet Ali, has figured frequently for Karl Robinson's Dons side this season, benefiting from the thinness of the squad and firm belief manager Robinson has in youth. Robinson himself has described the six-goal midfielder as "the best young player he's worked with" and it comes as no surprised that he is courted by the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. It could be a struggle for the Dons to keep hold of the player.

) Britt Assombalogna - Peterborough, Age 21: After joining Posh for a club record fee believed to be around £1.25m, Assombalogna has repaid the club's faith by netting 30 times this season and director of football Barry Fry has recently admitted they have received Premier League interest in him. Despite Fry's claims that a bid of £5 million would still be rejected, Peterborough have a history of selling players for profitable fees and refusal to sell may also lead to one unhappy striker.

3). Antoni Sarcevic- Fleetwood, Age 22: An ex-Man City youth player, Sarcevic joined last summer from conference side Chester who he had netted 17 times for in the season just gone. Sarcevic not only chips in with his fair amount of goals (13 goals in all this season) but also says he can do a job in both boxes. Interest could be sparked for the 22-year-old, who may decide to stay at Fleetwood following their promotion.

4). Jed Wallace - Portsmouth, Age 20: The energetic midfielder managed seven goals from midfield last season has been linked with a move away from Fratton Park for a long while now. Peterborough were believed to have had an offer rejected for the player in January but with Pompey having a disappointing season, the midfielder may feel it could be his time to leave this summer.

5). Daniel Bentley - Southend, Age 21: Reported to be a Leeds target, the stopper kept 18 clean sheets for Southend last season and with Paddy Kenny being released, he could be high on their agenda.

6). Conor Coady - Liverpool, Age 21: Technically not a lower league player, as he was only on loan at Sheff Utd from Liverpool last season. However was mightily impressive for the Blades forming a great partnership with Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence. Liverpool have slapped a £1 million price-tag on the defender who can also do a job in midfield and you would imagine would interest a host of sides.

7). Matt Tootle - Crewe Age 23: Tootle was an ever-present for Crewe last season and director of football Dario Gradi believes the right-back is now ready to play at a higher standard. Crewe have a reputation of bringing players through with Luke Murphy joining Leeds last summer. Tootle could follow suit.

8). Franck Moussa - Coventry, Age 24: The classy midfielder joined Coventry from Midlands rivals Leicester last summer and scored 14 goals in 2013/14. Moussa is out of contract this summer and has been rumored to be joining Championship side Wolves.

9). Cyrus Christie - Coventry, Age 21: The young right-back has made more than 100 starts for the Sky Blues and is likely to reject a new deal to stay at Coventry this summer. He will therefore be free to leave the club, with the Sky Blues likely to be looking for a fee at a tribunal for the player. Interest from Championship clubs is expected.

10). Dean Cox - Leyton Orient, Age 26: The lively winger scored 15 goals for Orient last term and after netting in the play-off final second leg, he went to his sides second goal in their play-off final defeat to Rotherham. After failing to win promotion, clubs could become interested in the midfielder who may see his future elsewhere.

I like a lot of these ideas and players, but is there any point in highlighting players with £1m-plus price tags when we haven't spent any kind of money on any single player since Paul Jewell?

Much more interested in the potential bargains, but they will unfortunately usually be the out-of-form or out of contract.

Cheers for the comments, the blog wasn't particularly designed to be our targets, but potential targets for any club in general. I think there are a few on the list that could interest us though, Moussa and Christie will be free and both sound like players we need and others may be within our price range should Cresswell or McGoldrick be sold. Of course there are others that you could put onto the list, such as Hogan as Pazelle mentioned.

Cox is a great player technically and (as an O's sympathiser still reeling from my trip to Wembley on Sunday) I think he's fantastic. But he's got no pace, which might see him struggle at a higher level. But I suppose Darren Currie did OK...

Wouldn't be surprised if Mick went in for Moussa, doubt whether we'd get him though.

I was going to mention Jed Wallace the other day. Watch the highlights of york city vs portsmouth from september. He did the whole team and scored.
