Patience, Sweet Patience
Written by Blueray on Wednesday, 5th Nov 2014 15:24

Right out at the outset, I want to make it clear that I don't believe we are potential league leaders, nor even automatic promotion contenders come to think of it. In fact, if we make the play-offs, I think it would be a remarkable achievement and one that we don't fully appreciate.

We are not blessed with parachute payments, nor have we the remnants of a Premier League side to rely upon. Hell, unlike some (QPR?) we even choose to abide by the Financial Fair Play rules. How did Huddersfield afford Nahki Wells by the way? The £10k or thereabouts we spent on Mings says it all.

So, with the tightest of tight belts, MM (and TC) have managed to save us from relegation in their first season. In their second, they consolidated. In their third, we find ourselves fifth, and only three points behind the leaders. Flipping brilliant I say.

Added to that, we have an honest, decent manager in place (and he doesn't mind saying bollocks when it needs to be said), and that leaves us little to grumble about.

And if we finish a mere ninth or 10th this season, that would be pretty decent in my book. So my point, if ever there was a point, is that patience will serve us all well, and twinned with some expectations based on reality we should support our team and herald our management team accordingly. That also means trusting in them when they don't play our favourite XI week in, week out.

Progress, year by year, is all that we seek and we are getting that. My only wish, (in the footballing domain) is that we continue to get behind Mick for the foreseeable future, even if we suffer more dips than peaks for the remainder of the season, for there is no question, they have served us well.

After all, who else would have discovered the mercurial wand that is Murphy's left foot?

I fully agree with what you say here. MM & TC have been remarkable these past 2 years. I don't think we should get too giddy just yet, despite our start to the season being fantastic and I thinl we have only lost one game since the Norwich game at the end of the August. Not bad as we are now into November. However, remember last season when we were 6th with a handful of games to go and a large portion of fans were saying "We're going up". Obviously, we know what happened, but I'm glad we didn't as I think we would have been slaughtered in the PL this season (probably reminiscent of Derby in 2004 was it?).

This season we have seen some good performances, a few laclusture ones too, but nevertheless, are strikers are on fire, especially Murph, our defence is clearing up, and we have discovered a real gem in Teddy Bishop. Perhaps if we are still in the PO's at Christmas time we can start to be confident.

Spot on sentiments Blueray.

However I fear asking a football support to be that realistic may be a hope too far

Agree with the general sentiment. The 10k is a bit of a redherring in my book. We still pay out an awful lot in wages and make a (ffp acceptable) loss.
