Mick The Builder (& TC)
Written by yorkieblue on Friday, 2nd Jan 2015 20:27

As a northern Town fan since the seventies I have experienced the ups and downs the joy and pleasure that is familiar to all Blues.

This was thrust upon me by my Harwich-born Dad and has led to me repeating with my six-year-old, York-born, son.

I was fortunate enough to be growing up during the Sir Bobby years, but living in the north it means that technically I am a glory hunter. It also meant having the ammunition to debate the virtue of the mighty blues in the playground up against such childhood foes as Leeds, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and, of course, Liverpool.

However I was worried for my son and obviously scared for myself (a Leeds supporting son is a horror too repellent to contemplate) over Town's lack of exposure around here and the all too real threat of Premiership big boys and continental giants. As a result I had to formulate tactics to reduce the chances of such terror.

It is one of these tactics that has inspired me to put fingers to keyboard for the first time, coupled with the best feeling I have had as a Town fan for many a year.

The tactic (which I’m sure many Town following dads have also used) was to sing songs to my son using popular kids TV themes with ITFC lyrics attached to them. This has led to Mick the Builder (& TC) from the previously unheralded Bob The Builder theme (though I believe it is seasonal having been a former Christmas number one).

After being serenaded by my son on a walk on New Year's Day I feel we need to share this ditty with the rest of you.

So, without further ado I give you Mick The Builder (& TC)

Verse 1

Sir Alf and Bobby and Burley too,

Made me proud to be a Blue,

Recently though it's been quite bad,

‘til we found our Barnsley lad,

(CHORUS)

Mick McCarthy, can he fix it?

Mick McCarthy, yes he can.

Mick McCarthy, can he fix it?

Mick McCarthy and TC

Verse 2

Mathie and Whymark and Johnny Wark,

Would always make those Budgies squawk

FA Cup and Europe and league of old ,

He’ll bring the glory days back to Portman Road.

(Chorus)

Whilst it does feel optimistic in the extreme I can’t help but feel that since it has been sung in our house, the fortunes on the pitch have picked up and gone from strength to strength. I now feel that we need to go to the next level and hence here I bring it to the massed ranks of the Blue Army in the hope that the next game I take my son (with his grandad too) to we will be in our rightful place at the top of the Championship with the chance of him to debate with his school-mates next season as a fellow Premiership supporting fan.

Keep up the good work, yorkieblue. Having two young sons myself, I know how difficult it is!
