Is it Time to Be Worried?
Written by RyanKerry on Saturday, 30th Jul 2016 12:29

Are you confident about the upcoming season? I'm not. How depressing is it to wake up every morning to a new Championship signing and the high amount of money spent.

The quality of some of the players is so much higher than what we are used to, look at Newcastle as the prime example; they are cheating with their signings as Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie are Premier League ability players, whereas we don’t spend the high sum of money and we are not signing anyone with high amounts of quality. Let's compare Paul Digby to Joel Lynch or Tommy Elphick and no more needs to be said.

Marcus Evans needs to get with the current market as it risks us falling behind and players having to play out of their skins to match the ability of surrounding teams.

Normally Mick McCarthy is very good at exploiting the free transfer market which is shown through most of our first team being made up of frees over the years but the last couple of seasons the quality of players has taken a hit which is predominantly down to our direct play style, proved through Liam Feeney and Tommy Oar leaving the club for different opportunities, which could be said to be less prestigious.

Feeney especially as joining Blackburn is hard to take but is that where we lie in the Championship, less prestigious than Blackburn?.Two players which offered a different style of play and had the ability to take on a man. I feel limited players at the club have that creative ability, maybe only Freddie Sears can offer this at a consistent level.

If we are not attracting creative players on a free how are we going to progress into the Premier League, a goal all fans have been hoping to achieve for a long time. Between Marcus and Mick we can sort the club out through a better style of play from Mick, attracting players and entertaining fans.

Marcus can then help Mick invest. I’m not saying at the level of Newcastle as that’s ridiculous but believe it or not there are good players available for frees or for under a million which can bolster a club to Premier League status. To give an example if we could attract players like Lewis McGugan or Callum Harriott we can work towards a range of different qualities that make a successful squad.

I don’t think it would be fair to only spout negativity as most frequently I tend to be positive about Ipswich and a good point to mention for the season ahead is the mass of youth floating around the first team.

Players such as Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock, Andre Dozzell, Teddy Bishop, Adam McDonnell, James Blanchfield, Kundai Benyu, Ben Morris and many more are all establishing themselves and the right sort of management from Mick will hopefully embed them into first team players.

Players with the current ability of Josh Emmanuel, Kenlock and Teddy Bishop should really kick on and hold first team positions this season. The only problem is that we are relying on inexperienced youngsters to be the back-ups for Championship games and if we are plagued with injuries I don’t know if I can see us soldiering through with the kids carrying us.

I'm only 17 years old and this is my first time putting my views out there, many people could disagree and any feedback would be appreciated as I want to increase my knowledge of the game and be able to write blogs that are understandable but also debatable with the people who read them.

What I want people to see is the range of views surrounding the club and therefore understand different opinions but most importantly I want the club to have a successful season and move towards promotion, but being brutally honest I feel we are far off that capability and instead looking further down the table than the previous season. Hope to be proved wrong, COYB.

I have to agree with you regarding the pessimism around supporters I know at the moment. I am a lot older than you and when I was 17 it was the year 1978 which I'm sure you won't need telling was the year Town won the FA Cup. If you haven't seen it I suggest you watch the full match - it was a 1 - 0 thrashing of what was then a top class Arsenal side.
Sadly I don't believe we will ever be lucky enough to see anything like it again particularly under the current owner/manager. Yes we have a few decent youngsters around at present but unless the manager is brave enough to play them and change the "style" of play to allow football on the deck like all the best teams do I fear we are stuck in Championship purgatory for ever.
I was very lucky to be around for the Robson era and unless you were there to witness it you cannot describe it. The feeling of expecting to win every single match league or European. The quality of the football on offer and never fearing that lot up the road.
I have once again renewed my season ticket because I am a supporter of Ipswich Town FC my home town club but it is more out of habit than expectation.
Like you I hope to be proved wrong but I doubt it.

Im sure there will be signings over the next 2 weeks. Mick has said he is trying to bring in up to 6 players on loan as well as contracted to us. If the fact we are quiet in terms of signings due to looking at better quality then great.
One thing to appreciate though is that the change in the emergency loan situation has caused premiership clubs to look at being more cautious in terms of loaning their quality younger fringe players. Liverpool for example have insisted that anyone they loan out has to play 75 percent of games. Or they will be called back. Its reviewed at the end of each month. I think this season there will be a change in terms of style to a degree , however there are better teams than us at possession based football. So will mix it up.
No idea where we will finish. Could be top 6 bottom 3 or anywhere in between.

Well written, To be honest i'm not worried. Think we will see some signings pretty soon and think we have a good crop of younger players coming through. Think next season could really see us challenge. Wouldn't rule out playoffs this year.

It's quite some achievement to kill optimism stone dead in 12 months, but Marcus Evans has managed it. Mick is making this club appear far more competitive than it is because the approach from the boardroom is distinctly Ryman League. It is a lot to expect the youth teamers to step en masse to carry the load if our ageing thin first choice team picks up injuries. We are at least 3 or 4 good signings short going into this season, and don't get your hopes up for August either. It'll be more punts and people needing time to get up to speed before leaving inside a year because the owner couldn't get his sheite together and get signings made in good time. "Fees are possible" - Evans you are a fricking con man and a joke.

Unfortunately Mm can only play one style, you are probably too young to remember him as a player but he wasn't very good and hoofball was his style as it has been through out his managerial career
