are we in a new era because I did not see a single police officer either in the ground or outside on Saturday or is this the club cutting back on match costs? Whatever the reason seemed to work well.

From last season a number of games were designated police free and assume the same is the case this time around.

Actually, now you come to mention it neither did I. But I'd be very surprised if this becomes the norm.

If someone told you in 1987 that in 25 years some Football matches were to have no Police you would have thought they were nuts.

Good to see that the authorities have managed to stamp out hooliganism.

Cardiff, Millwall, Leeds etc?

We'll get the opposite extreme and have PR closed after the match then.

Mind you, when Cardiff bring 225 to PR later this season, you can expect a corresponding amount of Police Officers.

And the helicopters. And away coaches in the PR car-park - even if it is just a couple of minibuses...

Depends on match catergory, and as mentioned above, Leeds / Millwall / Cardiff will be Cat C games and therefore require specific attention.

Interesting though, a court case recently regarding policing areas outside the stadium being designated public places and therefore the football club was under no obligation to pay for the presence of uniformed police...that may be another reason...slippery slope, but as you state, no problems and worked well
