This IS tge reserve league now. You can field 3 over 21 players, the aim is to bridge the gap between U18 & first team with more ease than the former Reserve system.

I agree. I think the idea is to force clubs to give more younger players a chance. The problem with reserve leagues in the past has been they would have such a change in team put out week-by-week as managers used them to bring first team players back to fitness or keep squad players fit and playing. The problem now is that this is not so easy (although the 3 overage players allows it to happen to a degree). Also the fear is that if clubs decide they need to keep more average under 21 players on their books just to run the team there will be less available for lower league clubs to get hold of. Not sure what the perfect solution would be. |  |
