CB - Assuming Del stays, otherwise we'll need two. Smith is still developing and although Del is a decent enough back up, there's literally nothing else in reserve, so we're only one suspension / injury away from a defensive crisis.
LM - Carson can't and shouldn't be expected to last the whole season - Murphy hasn't been replaced.
RM - Come to think of it, we don't have any cover for JET.
Attacker - Chopra and Scotland are both decent enough, but again, literally no cover beyond that.
So I make that 5 at least. Although I genuinely believe we won't sign any of these before 31st August.

Are we really going to get through an entire season (or even until christmas), with Drury, Hyam, Luongo in central midfield, and then Carson, JET, Martin and Stevenson in the attacking midfield positions?
Thats 7 players mentioned for 5 positions.
And I dont know we can say with any certainty that Hyam, Drury or Luongo will offer sufficient quality for a long period of time, because they are largely unproven at this level. Stevenson and Carson too, in fact. [Post edited 21 Aug 12:11]

Well Carson and Stevenson have both been played in the middle by Jewell and in Carson's case he was very successful there at yoot level from what I know.
I'm assuming that a Murphy type signing also closes down one flank pushing them back into the reckoning in the middle.
I'm not happy with the loss of Leadbitter and Bullard and there being no replacements other than a loanee and a young player Jewell looked to bin off last season, but assume that's what were stuck with under the new fiscal controls. | |
