| George Galloway - Is he a total tit or just on 12:07 - Aug 21 with 1768 views | StokieBlue | Come on Warky, he has always been a fool. His usual tactic is to select a specific subject which will chime with a certain % of voters (usually exactly the % he needs to get elected) and then push it as far as possible riding into office on the crest of a rather silly wave. He then precedes to make himself look a tit until the next election whilst the constituents get annoyed at him for moving onto his next bandwagon. SB. | |

With respect, do you think any of them would have come out with this regarding a raped woman? “It might be really bad manners not to have tapped her on the shoulder and said ‘do you mind if I do it again?’ It might be bad sexual ettiquette, but whatever else it is, it is not rape.”

Or praised Saddam Hussein to his face and then denied it? There's a reason why the vast majority of edicated people don't take the man seriously, regardless of their political leanings. [Post edited 21 Aug 12:41]

He is using the classic republican strategy and claiming he "misspoke". Did anyone see the nutter on Newsnight last night who actually named an alledged rape victim on TV? The presenter was not impressed. SB

Alarmingly this will probably actually play well in large swathes of the bible belt. Presumably his role on the science comittee is to discuss the extent to which the appalling fallacy of evolution is taught in schools? On a vaguely connected note, weird report on BBC today about circumcision. I hadnt realised it was pretty much the norm in the states. What an appalling barbaric practice it is, and what logical arguments do the religous nuts have for subjecting babies to it?

As a left-leaning type, I've got very little time for Galloway. Full of himself, and so keen to court controversy, that his socialist principles have become completely disguised. This latest comment is wholly insensitive, and, like so much of Galloway's outbursts, designed to attract attention.

It's not a religious thing in the States. There's a religious-like belief that it's more hygienic.

There are studies that suggest that circumcised men suffer less STI's.

Isn't it based on hygiene originally anyway? All about getting sand in the ole' pud, rubbing and infection etc. Circumcision is a feature in Islam also isn't it? (established tradition Vs Jewish religious law)

There is a vague suggestion about HIV, but its not considered to be strong clinical evidence, warranting unecessary surgery on a defenceless baby which hmight take a different view once it is old enough to do so. There are facts which show that circumcised men face the risk of complications following the act of unecessary surgery.
