| Great Inventions on BBC2 - great! but why don't RR make cars any more? 13:32 - Feb 3 with 895 views | Ryorry | Fantastic series - this week was locomotion - steamtrains, cars, jetplanes. Filmed in the absolutely awesome engine room at Rolls Royce, Derby. Towards the end tho prog said I think (haven't replayed) that RR now exclusively makes jet engines and has stopped making cars? Despite the recession, surely there'll always be wealthy people who want and can afford one? so it seems a real shame that they don't boost British industry and help themselves to more cash along the way, by still making them. Can anyone enlighten me? | |

Didn't realise about the 'J' part of Landrover either. Yes, I think they'd lose a lot of customers if they upped sticks to India, bit of a shock to hear that! Apart from anything else, would reduced costs be enough to offset import price (and taxes)?

| Great Inventions on BBC2 - great! but why don't RR make cars any more? on 17:38 - Feb 3 by Mullet | Well I live outside the original factory site in M15 but there's nothing but flats here now! Plus two roads named after them. |
The original factory in Derby's gone now, too - except for the frontage which was listed. Think that will all become flats or houses as well, although it's not in the most desirable part of town.
