Whatever anyone thinks of him, he's served this club with pride and passion.
He'd be a big loss to us.

He signed a contract until 2017 with an option for a further 12 months which I assume that we can trigger.

The last time that he signed a new contract this was following speculation of a move elsewhere in the press so probably is work of an agent.

If he was playing at centre back he'd be a huge loss for us, at right back he isn't. Personally I'd rather the interest was in Skuse as I think Webster would be great to fill Skuse's role and would free up the spot alongside Berra for Chambers, giving us the opportunity to get a proper right back in or give Emmanuel more game time to develop.

Think we've got an additional year option on his existing deal, which I'm pretty sure we'd trigger.

I think Chambers has played a really important role in uniting the fans and the club after the dark days at the end of PJ's tenure.

Now I'd really like him to challenge for one of the centre back spots with a new right back to compete with Emmanuel.

If he leaves, our cover at centre back looks very short with Smith still out.

You'd move our best centre back into central midfield?

I don't doubt he could do it but he has the potential to go right to the top as a centre back

Agreed. Why would anyone want one of longest serving players to go?

No matter what people think of him, he is passionate, playing out of position and like all players, has bad games.

I, for one, would hate him to leave so I hope Luke, Mick and ME think the same.

Can't see Mick letting him go and certainly not until Smithy is back. It would also leave us without much cover at RB and with the CB's.

Won't happen.

Looks like standard agent stuff to me. Create a plausible rumour, try and squeeze a bit more out of your existing club.

Agents. What would journalists do without them and vice versa.

Indeed. He's an important catalyst for the excellent team spirit we have. We overlook that at our peril.

I'd give him an extended contract, moving into coaching, which is something he is definitely interested in. Even if he doesn't play every game, he should be club captain.

I've no doubt he will go to the top. Would it improve our starting 11 by moving him there and Chambers to centre back? I'd argue it would. Besides, Rio Ferdinand played in central midfield for spells in his younger days. I think spells playing this role would improve Webster, add to his value and give Skuse competition for a place.

Lots of benefits to opening this up for debate I think.

As I have mentioned in the News section Luke has been asking the club since the summer do they intend to extend his contract, up until a week or so before Christmas they had declined any form of discussions, therefore I would guess there is substance in the story or Luke's agent is trying to apply some pressure. Either way I feel that he deserves to know where he stands. With Berra leaving and Webster having premier league suitors we could be woefully short of centre halves come the summer.

Well its the boss who plays him out of position , not that Luke complains about it just seems to get on with the job best he can.

According to that logic if we kept him another five years he would be even more indispensable. Passion and commitment alone do not make a great footballer. We have the chance to get some money for him now or quite possibly let him go for nothing in the summer. Things need freshening up and Chambers is part of a rather uninspiring past, not our future. Let him go. With such a dominant personality moved on it would give others a chance to step up.

Indeed. Some fans get too misty eyed about players. They give a fist pump or two but that doesn't make them great players and in the end he's a footballer who would be off at the slightest chance of a better deal elsewhere.

Players come and go and I agree maybe the time is right now to let him go. And tbh it does seem if he is the one trying to engineer a move.

Totally agree, posted the same a few weeks back. Webster would be a massive upgrade on Skuse in the holding role. Far better footballer.

Anyone who saw any of the Jewell era can't surely forget how important he has been (and still is) to team cohesion and team spirit. Even if he isn't a long term first choice at RB or CH, he's a key Part of the squad. I'd be doing everything possible to keep him, even as a club captain and bit part player, evolving into some kind of coach role.
