I fully expect Smith to come in for Berra when he gets back to full fitness. For me, he is one of the best defenders in the Championship and we miss his athleticism and threat from set pieces. Smith and Webster is probably as good a pairing as you'll get at this level.

Indeed. He'd be a terrible captain.
Tommy Smith aside, genuinely hard to think of a regular first- teamer worthy of captaincy.

I'd never want my goalkeeper as captain - harder to speak to teammates.
A CB/CM is usually captain. I'd have smith or skuse. |  |
