ipswich - amazing stat ? 14:15 - Jan 6 with 1799 viewsLombokblue

This week the producer of the excellent Guardian Weekly football podcast http://bit.ly/2ijyZWo managed to erase the last ten minutes of the recording so he did a voice over of what listeners had missed.
Listeners missed an amazing Cup stat about Ipswich Town. No idea what it is?

We are the current holders of the longest unbeaten home record in Europe?

it could be the record number of consecutive FA Cup 3rd round victories, which Ipswich Town held for some time. I don't know which span of years it covered, probably early 70s to mid 80s. I think it was eventually overtaken by Manchester United.

I think it was a home game against Birmingham City that ruined that run.

We have a 100% success record in FA Cup finals
Plus we've not conceded any goals in an FA Cup final

Poll: Should horse racing be banned in the UK?

this from their "10 things to look out for:
7) Imps can test Ipswich at Portman Road

If you’re looking for a non-league shock, you might be well advised to keep an eye on events at Portman Road. Mick McCarthy’s ludicrously inconsistent Ipswich side — they have not recorded successive results of any kind since two draws in the middle of August (their record since: WLWDLDLDWLDWLWLDLWLWL) — host the National League leaders Lincoln City. It has not been much fun being a fan of the Imps lately — five successive League Two play-off defeats between 2003 and 2007 were followed by relegation to non-league football in 2011. The club have shown little sign of making their way back since, finishing in the bottom half of the National League in all five seasons. This year, though, has been different, with Danny Cowley’s success as manager at Sincil Bank apparently piquing the interest of managerless Notts County. It’s an awkward tie for McCarthy’s side, who are going nowhere fast in the Championship. JA

21 games in the league without repeating the same result in successive games, club record is 22 in 1965/66!

A draw would do the trick, eh?
Plus a money-spinning replay at Sincil Bank.

It is a league record so we'll have to wait until next week, not sure of the all competitions situation.

well, all you have to do is add the League Cup exit to Stevenage & it does ruin the random sequence as we lost to Brentford in the following game. Keeps us on edge for another week, eh?

They were both before the two-game Wolves-Norwich draw streak, though. A good chance of it continuing for a few games yet with Blackburn at home - which you'd like to think we'd win - followed by the trip to Huddersfield, which you'd guess we might not.
