Apparently Bart, Douglas and 5 kids....interesting to see

About time McDonnell made a claim for a place in the team then.

When I've seen him this year he seems to have gone backwards, not really kicked on physically

Who starts in midfield? Assume Bru & Dozzell?
0
Bench today on 09:09 - Jan 7 with 2667 viewsKieran_Knows

If that's the case, I presume we would line up something like;

Gerken
Emmanuel
Webster
Berra
Knudsen
Sears
Dozzell
Bru
Ward
Best (assuming he is still considered to play a part for us)
Pitman

With Lawrence and McGoldrick being rested for Blackburn next week?

You'd guess that at least one of the kids will make an appearance then today, should be interesting.

Looking at things they might be in match day 20 rather than the named 18 as too many missing out otherwise

Chambers presumably not playing then.

No other choice.

Which is why Karacan would be a good signing...

Didn't Mick say it would be the strongest possible line up so surely we shouldn't be "resting" anyone? Haha If they don't play then Mick is going to look a fool. Magically 5 or 6 players are injured for an FA Cup game? Hmmm..........

Hmmm.....so if we are 1 down and need to change the game we bring on......?

Good that it presumably means a sensible starting eleven though.

Surely this is the perfect game to give the 3-5-2 another go? If he was serious about it then this is the time to play it.

It looked like it had some promise against QPR, just needed practice and refining.

Apparently Chambers is 'injured', so we have no more than 2 centre backs left!

We have U21 centre backs, we have Digby still - there are options to work on the formation if he wants to.

Going to 4-4-2 with the same players and maybe a few young-uns will probably win us the match but tell us absolutely nothing and won't move us forward.

Unless the now fit Digby plays but I would think that very unlikely as he may be going out on loan.

Yeah, but Digby is still recovering but training too and Mick has committed to his strongest available side. Whatever that means....

But that's clearly not true given Gerken is playing and anyone who thinks Gerken is as "strong" as Bart is crazy.

This is the trouble with MM sometimes, he talks nonsense and expects everyone to lap it up.

I just think maybe it's the perfect time to try and hone that formation against real opposition. 4-4-2 is currently clearly not working for us.

Playing devil's advocate, we lost the first half against QPR playing 3-5-2 and drew the second half after going 4-4-2. I don't think our formation has been our main issue this season. We've been inconsistent whatever the system. It's only relatively recently we've gone back to 4-4-2.

Sure, that's a fair point.

However we lost to a badly defended throw-in. I thought that 3-5-2 showed some promise with the full-backs pushing forward.

Whatever previous systems we have played clearly haven't worked - the league table and form tables don't lie.

I find it hard to take anyone seriously whose only response to a post is to pick out a spelling mistake.

Childish and pointless - well done.

We've chopped and changed personnel and systems a fair bit this season which also hadn't helped. Performances if not results have been better since we reverted back to 4-4-2 but we've been let down by some shocking defending. I'm not sure another change of system is the way to go.
