Players who probably weren't very good but you liked them anyway? Players who others seemingly hated, but liked?

I know there's been similar threads like this before, but with all the hatred JD is getting, it's worth remembering that far worse players have been strangely liked, without any reason.

For me?

Steve McCall

I know this sort of thing is all about opinions, but, Steve McCall? Played over 250 games for us, and 450 league games - while some of his rival claimants on here, such as Velice or Bajner, were walk-on parts, and when they did finally walk on, left no footballing record at all.

Similarly nonplussed by Stockwell nomination.

Les Tibbot. Poor old c3nt was the most ridiculous pile of sh1te after our glory team. I actually felt sorry for him. Honourable mentions go out to Mich Davray and Glenn Pennyfather.

There was nothing wrong with Steve Macoll. Not only was he a fine player ( left back stand in to be honest) he was a hentle

If you mention Les Tibbot then you have to throw in Pat Sharkey and Kevin Steggles.

Those three were only ever wheeled out if we had more than one injury.

Steggles weren't that bad. In fact he would probably captaing our current team.

I'm amazed to see that he was with us until 1987. I only ever remember him as a bit part player under Sir Bobby.

George Santos - Met him a few times, gentle speaking man but an animal on the pitch I can remember him being played in mid-field for a few games talk about a sq peg in a round hole.

Gus. could run very fast but with his head down if someone had opened the gate he would have run strt out of Portman road with the ball.

Yeah - a lot of it is context, isn't it? D'avray up front at the mo would be very welcome. The likes of Tibbott and Steggles, when Mills and Beattie were fresh in the mind, could not but be indifferently perceived.

I wonder how good, or otherwise, Robin Turner really was?

I remember telling my mates that Pat Sharkey was going to be a hell of a player for us.
Perhaps I got that one wrong.

The overthoughtful and much maligned David Hill, possibly because he looked a bit like the brother-in-law who fixed my Mark III Cortina when it broke down.

James Scowcroft got huge abuse from many fans that I could never understand. We could certainly do with him in these dire days.

Claus Thomsen - The poor man's David Linighan

You can't compare Claus Thomsen with Linighan. The only thing they had in common was a lack of pace but, in the last 30 years, we haven't had many centre backs who were as comfortable on the ball as Claus Thomsen.

Graham Harbey, unsurprisingly! Sunday League player in technique, yet somehow was a regular under Duncan. Always gave his all and was so bad that I loved him.

Terry Austin. Much more recently, big Frank, he tried so so hard, but he was sh#t, but he gave me a lot of laughs.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

The little Canadian fella with the HUGE arris.

Are you thinking of Jamie Peters
That could be another thread. Players who's shorts are longer than their legs. David 'leaps like a samon' Johnson. Tabbed etc.

On the current thread how about Ivan Camps. His legs had gone when we got him. But the club made a fortune on curly wigs.

From what I can gather it was an underlying injury that curtailed his professional career. He still plays very well locally doesn't he?

Not that I'm aware of. He's given up football altogether now.

Gus for me, I was a teenager at the time and can remember him bombing up and down the wing when we played away at Portsmouth on a Friday night. I thought he was amazing, probably just because of how lighting quick he was.

How about Titus Bramble, now I'm not sure he was crap but he seemed to have a mistake in him most games. Maybe his time at Newcastle is muddying the waters somewhat though.

I used to like Sam Parkin but most people thought he was rubbish. Another player bought from a lower league and not able to cope with the Championship.

Just Googled him and I'm amazed to discover he started out at Chelsea and finished up at Exeter in 2014.
