Where to eat in Ipswich 10:12 - Jan 20 with 2288 views | clive_baker | Hoping to go for dinner in Ipswich Saturday night with a few mates. Where's decent? Totally open to different cuisines but not feeling Indian as did that last week. Nothing too punchy on the pocket would be appreciated. Cheers, CB

Where to eat in Ipswich on 10:16 - Jan 20 with 2277 views | hoppy | I walked past the Cricketers after swimming this morning before work, and saw they'd got a sign outside saying 'Burns Night Week" with Haggis, neeps and tatties, or Scottish burger or something... £7.95 I think it was, including an alcoholic beverage. Can't go wrong, surely?!

....the service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The food was good value and well cooked. But..... I did find it a little bland and lacking in spice.

Lucan did report on here that the head chef is away presently - not sure if this would make a difference as the food there is normally perfect.

On Saturday hey, my lad would have been working in there that night. Main chef is away in Thailand at the moment, due back in Feb. [Post edited 20 Jan 2017 12:00]

Have they been re-rated yet, or still just got the 1 rating for food hygiene?

Wow, didn't know it was 1 and still looks to be. Never had a bad meal there tbf and must have eaten there a dozen times or so. Slightly off putting though.

I'm not too fussed about all this food hygiene shenanigans; if it tastes good, eat it; if it makes you ill, don't go back. Worked pretty well in Vietnam, Cambodia etc. What annoys me more about the Brewery Tap is the overwhelming state of chaos they seem to exist in c. 40% of the time. When they get it right, the food is very good indeed - sadly, they get it wrong far, far too often. I'm a sucker for decent food, and there's plenty of it in Ipswich - but have run out of patience with the Tap. In answer to the OP, Love Thy Burger is ace.

Agreed. I've been sensible in Indonesia and wider parts of Asia etc. but I can't be bothered in the UK.

I had a Wetherspoons burger Monday & I thought it was bloody decent & a lot better value for money when comparing to something like 5 Guys.

1 star is seriously bad. It could be that the person who could answer the questions wasn't in when the visit happened, but generally a 1 star place deserves to be shut down and will be unless inprovements are made. It could be things like staff not having done basic food hygiene course, no hand washing facilities, no demarcation of raw and cooked food preparation areas and equipment, faulty refrigeration equipmemt or fridges set too high. Botulism, Salmonella and Listeria are a bit more serious than "I had a bit of a dodgy tummy so I won't go there again." All are potentially fatal or could seriously damage organ functions permanently.

Not tried Love Thy Burger, next on my list. Just smashed a Lamb Shish wrap from Byriani Hut.

The beer is painfully cheap and usually kept reasonably too. Newmarket Wetherspoons does Ghost Ship for £2.15, I think it's more expensive in Waitrose.

It doesn't necessarily mean any of the examples you listed there. You can score a 1 or 0 by not filling out paperwork. If it did why would the council let 1's or 0's still trade? http://www.torridge.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=9186&p=0

Indeed, the Cappadocia at Capel had a 1 rating a few months ago, but it's food handling and building rating parts of that were both really good, they just a zero for record keeping which dragged the overall rating down to 1. They must have sorted out the records now as it now has a 5 rating.
