Driving whilst on a mobile 18:23 - Jan 23 with 3023 viewsgtsb1966

Didn't realise that from March 1st the punishment doubles to a £200 fine and six points and then if caught again a ban and up to a grand fine. Anyone else think that using a mobile whilst driving should be treated the same as drink driving. I see so many people doing it now its obvious a fine doesn't work.

Saw a bloke on the M5 the other reading his newspaper while doing 70mph.
I noticed because he edged into my lane as I was overtaking him (yes, I know)

Well you can't both of being doing 70. Are you sure he wasn't doing 68?

No, I think my speedo must have been calibrated marginally differently than his.

If he was stretching a hamstring I can see how that would happen.

At peak times drivers use my road as a bit of a cut through. Every other bloody car has a driver fiddling with a phone. Does my head in; wish police would just go big on it for a short period of time and get ppl out of the habit.

See also dog eggs on pavements.....albeit the consequences are less.

To be fair as far as serious accidents go I'm sure the phones are checked as a matter of course.

Yep, phones are confiscated and in my limited experience they also search the vehicles and nearby verges for hastily discarded phones and tablets.

I'd have anyone caught using a mobile phone while driving 6 points, £200 fine and a stern reprimand.

If caught a second time £1000, 12 month ban, have to retake your driving test and your vehicle taken and sold with the profits going to victims of road traffic accidents.

If caught a third time I'd have a 5 year ban and a custodial sentence of a few months.

Only draconian punishments and strict enforcement will discourage this menace.

I don't understand why anyone does it as all cars have Bluetooth handsfree now

Yes, because all cars on the road are less than 3 years old.

What a nonsensical comment.
