has rekindled in me a fascination in the American Constitution and system of government. Can anyone guess which US President created the most EOs? If you think about it, it should be obvious.

Regan would be an obvious one, so I will say Obama.

I have a feeling it was Obama. Due partly to opposition in Congress.

Not by a long shot.

Think context, and when a President would feel obliged to act swiftly on behalf of his people.

Precisely. Over three thousand five hundred.

So think 9/11 maybe? Bush? Or earlier lead ups to it Clinton?

Ah, missed by a mile then. I forgot conflict existed before the formation of the PL. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Some president trivia for you:

Before The Donald, who was the richest president upon assuming office?

He was also President for three-and-a-bit terms, far longer than any before or since.

The Kennedy's were minted, so I'm guessing JFK. Although I bet the early ones had a few bob too back in the days when they probably owned half the country and most of it's industry and oil wealth.

I believe it is probably George Washington. Property, baby.

Bingo.

Something like 3000 farms and the biggest distillery in the US. I think it was between 500m and 1bn in today's money.

Ah yep, pre-oil. I'm being a bit thick today; trying to do business planning and it's doing in my bonce.

Presumably he benefited quite a bit from slavery then with all those farms/plantations (when is a farm a farm and not a plantation?).

Not that easy to distinguish, but a plantation tends to be one crop for commercial sale.

He had slaves, and I believe inherited a large number through marriage, though he privately opposed slavery and freed all of his through a provision in his will.

Seems like a nice fella then. It's at this point I realise I've got humungous gaps in my historical knowledge. I can only remember us doing strip farming systems, the Romans (amazing what they did for us) and Turnip Townshend in history lessons at Copleston.

He certainly gave us a whipping a few times. He also stated on a number of occasions that slavery and the arguments of its merits had the potential to tear the US apart, rather prophetically.

Don't beat yourself up, I wouldn't have known that the US existed if I had stuck to the curriculum at GCSE and A Level.
