Mick saying he will assess his situation in the summer means surely we aregoing to to spend £3-4m on a striker, who if Mick leaves, his replacement might not want.

It's a weird one.
I can completely understand Evans deciding that the season is over, Mick can leave in the summer and keeping his powder dry for a war chest in the summer.
The fact we've had multiple bids and potentially one in excess of £2m turned down means we are willing to spend. So having since August to identify players and then 31 days to make a suitable bid would be completely unacceptable.
Hopefully we do bring someone in, but like most I am fully expecting the window to shut with the usual phrases trotted out. Also can't help to think anyone we buy today or tomorrow would be 10-20% more expensive, simply due to clubs knowing we are desperate and they can get a few extra quid. To be fair, Mick said that he is still trying to get deals done (plural) so I imagine we are actually trying to get 2 players in the door still.
Its typical Mick to keep his cards close to his chest in an interview, if we still haven't signed a striker when the transfer window closes tomorrow then I will be disappointed too. Overall though I am fairly happy with our business so far, especially the Rowe signing-get that others aren't so impressed though.
Until that window closes though I shall retain some hope that we are still going to sign someone. |  |

Why was it important? How many reasons do you want?
1 - To show there is still at least some ambition left at the club
2 - To show Mick he does support him
3 - To get dissenting fans back on side
4 - To at least show that we are attempting to push up the table
5 - To start planning for next season
6 - To start trying to convince the many hundreds if not thousands of season ticket holders who are close to not renewing to keep faith with the club

That they will be cheaper in the summer is a bit of a blanket statement that doesn't hold much weight with a club like us.

If this turns out to be true then its incredibly disappointing. I'd rather they had not said anything to get our hopes up, as it sounded like we are going to spend to get a striker / midfielder this window. This would be more disheartening to me than the football i've been watching all season.
