Things that wind me up that shouldn't on 22:40 - Feb 19 by The_Romford_Blue | I genuinely don't understand what the issue is with this one im afraid. 'Can I get two double cheeseburgers please' is fine as far as I'm concerned [Post edited 19 Feb 2017 22:41]

It's the "Can I get" part of it that is wrong, well, apart from the purchase of two double cheeseburgers, of course. It's not you that is going to get it, is it? You're asking "Can I buy/have two double cheeseburgers please" and the staff member serving you is the one that will then go and get it for you.

Get is used instead of "have" and "buy" among many other verbs, so although "Can I get...?" sounds a bit odd to many Brits, it's consistent with other uses of get. I say that even as an English purist. [Post edited 20 Feb 2017 1:09]

What about English people who say boss in the same context?

If I worked for McDonald's and you said "can I get two cheeseburgers" I would be tempted to just stand there and say "sure, go ahead".

Things that wind me up that shouldn't on 22:46 - Feb 19 by The_Romford_Blue | Can you bet 10p in a casino? Surely not? Only been there once and bought 15 £1 chips. Lasted me the whole nights as made £36 quid on a roulette spin at the start. Used them same chips all night. Bit boring there though. Much prefer a day at the racing or night at th dogs But 10p? I had no idea that was allowed. [Post edited 19 Feb 2017 22:56]

On the machines you can. Its usually a group of women screaming and cackling taking up a whole row of machines even though only one of them is gambling a five year olds pocket money.

Things that wind me up that shouldn't on 08:19 - Feb 18 by artsbossbeard | People (women) in supermarkets who just dump their trolley mid aisle thus meaning you have to move it to get past whilst they are completely oblivious to other shoppers around them. I always put something from the shelf into the trolley as I pass. Also, I politely pointed out to a lady that she was parked on double yellow lines outside the nearby doctors surgery, thus making the exit from my close difficult, that there were plenty of spaces in the surgery car park, which she could clearly see as she drove in. She gave me the middle finger, locked the car and went into the surgery. |
I was in Sainsburys the other Sunday, and was parked quite close to a car next to me (whilst in my space) as wife in in to get a birthday card. People in that car come back, and rather than squeeze in this old woman just smashes car door into me as I sit in drivers side and leans into it to leverage herself in.....open the window and ask what she is doing and get a torrent of foul mouthed abuse from the woman driving the car (50ish year old). I'm trying to look out to see if my car is damaged as it's red door onto my white car and wife comes back and can see the commotion - and is just walking past that car.........the woman just wheelspins out of the space causing wife to take evasive action and gets her arm caught but luckily no injury. Car then rags it round the whole of Sainsburys car park at what must have been 40mph flying across the Zebra crossing at about 11am on a Sunday when it is busy - could've killed someone. Wife really shaken up as someone has tried to run her over, but luckily there was another lady there as I fruitlessly chased the car across the car park. Called the police and given statements but doubt it will go anywhere....

Get to the till after doing their shopping, or get served at the bar, or get on the bus, or anything else and get told the price and then rummage through their handbag for their purse and then find their clubcard, then their payment card like it is a surprise. If you are in a queue be prepared for the very obvious thing that is happening at the end - also applies to people who get served and then don't know what they are ordering - you've got 5 seconds to start order or go to the back of the queue and have a think about it if other people are waiting

Most stuff like that is just people trying to feel superior because they know some obscure grammatical rule - that probably isn't even an absolute rule.

Things that wind me up that shouldn't on 11:20 - Feb 18 by AdmiralFunge | People that let their dogs sh1t in the street. Actually, no, I'm totally justified with that one. This should be either a 15 year jail sentence, or a public tarring and feathering. Or the loss of a finger. This makes me very angry indeed. People who don't straighten their wheels when they park. Trucks overtaking each other. (Someone put an explanation of this on here once, I didn't buy it) That prick Jim White off Sky Sports. Someone should drown him. |
Jim White. So much this, it hurts. I wouldn't mind the bloke so much, but his desire to let everyone know how many friends and "inside info" he has in football is cringe worthy.

Things that wind me up that shouldn't on 08:50 - Feb 20 with 1773 views | bluewein | The way people use atm's. (Normally older people.) The amount of people who I see check their account balance, print a mini statement, take their cash out, get a print out for that then go back to check their account and get another statement printed off is insane. For crying out loud Ethel, is it really that hard to work out what £20 taken away from your account is?

"Said" used as an adjective before a noun instead of just saying a noun or a pronoun instead. Why do people do that? Actually, this is the third time I've mentioned said annoyance on this forum. [Post edited 20 Feb 2017 10:29]

People finishing a sentence or a post with a comma instead of a full-stop. That is literally more annoying than people misusing the word literally.
