I'll start:

1. No keypad tones are allowed on phones in any public situation. £500 fine
2. Physical cash to be phased out.
3. Nationwide education on how to use the word done.

How on earth do you expect drug dealers to get by without cash in the world?

You haven't thought this through at all.

Bitcoin, baby.

But's that's absolutely not a discussion for here.

1. school trip to the Somme battlefields and memorials to be part of the national curriculum and paid for by the state.
2. Emergency First aid to be taught at school and tested every year from age 11.
3. If a driver does not indicate to turn left at a roundabout 1 penalty point rising to 2 after 2nd offence etc.
4. Indicating to turn left at a roundabout but turning off 1 junction further, castration or crucifixion as a minimum.

Worldpay support Bitcoin, very quietly. Infrasturcture is there to support it if the appetite grows. Conceptually, not that difficult to be supported by merchants either.

Pubs that offer pies on the menu, to then only put pastry on the top, not all the way round.

It's sad to see the demise of the British pub, but not the ones that bastardise pies.

It's a licence revoker for me.

Like the cut of your jib, battlefields & first aid.

Similarly with drivers, the first thing I would do is bring in corporal punishment for drivers who don't thank you for letting them out. Manners cost nothing. Equally, drives who cut you up and then thank-you... didn't give me much choice there mate did you?

Having worked in a city centre bar when at uni, I would make it compulsory for people to work a Friday & Saturday night shift in one before they are allowed to drink.

Making voting in general elections compulsory - but have a 'none of the above' option.

Not allowed to call yourself a supporter of a sports team unless you have actually been to the ground - amazing how these Sky Sports season tickets are the most vocal on social media despite never going to games.

Is that within the industry alone, or does it make any allowance for deaths from respiratory diseases and the like exacerbated by poor air quality?

In reality, the siting of power stations and the like is generally not going to cause major health effects, but switching personal transport to electricity generated by sustainable means would have a marked effect on health, and carbon production.

In 1975 in China a series of dams collapsed and hundreds of thousands of people died. If you include this event, then hydro-electric dams are by far the most dangerous form of energy production.

Obviously this doesn't have any relevance to debates about energy generation in the UK, no hydro-dams have ever failed here, and Ryorry was referring to tidal and wave power, rather than hydro-electric.

Quite right, thanks Gordon - and a small-scale, community organised, built & run hydro-electric scheme here in Yorkshire has been feeding into the national grid for a couple of years now, without killing anyone - so far!

A miniscule no. of jobs as the industry retains its own employees, and given the number of jobs lost from tourism and associated work, there'd likely be a net loss.

"Cheaper energy" from it is a myth - most of the fracked gas would be exported abroad at bigger prices for the industry.

Quite. I'd look up the exact no. of million gallons that each well needs which is then lost to the water cycle because it's contaminated with toxic chemicals - and believe it or not the UK doesn't have enough to support fracking - but this time I'm actually remembering that this thread is supposed to be on "trivial" laws!

My own no.1 wish for that would be to make it mandatory a) to have an off switch for the beeping on reversing of agricultural and heavy plant and b) to restrict its audibility to a radius of 200m. Yes by all means keep it on building sites where there are people around, but when one guy is working on his own, no-one's within half a mile, and the beeping can be heard two miles away every Sunday and sunny summer evening ...

The experience of fracking in the USA is not one that I would want to see replicated over here. There has to be better ways of meeting our energy needs than this method.

Some absolute shockers in there.

Ban gambling and porn?
Ban dogs??
Scrap benefits??? Even to people who need them to survive such as those too injured to work?
Make heroine free to addicts on the NHS???

I can't even comprehend what good that heroine one does
[Post edited 20 Feb 2017 0:46]

Just to come back on these points

Scrapping all benefits in favour of a universal basic income is what I said. So we pay everyone rich or poor an income of about £6K per annum and do away with benefits and means testing. Saves a huge amount in administration and provides a dignified minimum standard for everyone. Benefits system is a joke. Get rid.

Prescribing heroin for addicts is a no brainier. It immediately puts all heroin dealers out of business, and takes this awful drug off the streets. This means fewer future addicts. Addicts can lead a relatively normal life. They can work, maintain a stable home. They do not need to lead a life of crime. The crime rate reduces. Families are not broken up. The problem is manageable. It is then easier for users to quit.

Online porn should be prevented. Does not give kids the correct message. As a minimum it should be banned by default. If a user wishes to opt in to porn, they should have to do so in writing with the explicit understanding that they are responsible for the potential publication of it to children, with criminal sanctions if they do so.

Gambling is a disease. Unfortunately most people believe it is a bit of fun - it's pretty sad. You can tell just by looking on this forum, that a lot of people have a problem.

Well strangely I haven't been able to find a business interest to fund the research ! So we'll have to call it a gut feeling for now, a bit like pesticides, household chemicals etc...etc. But if needs must I'll just cite the 'precautionary principle' . I am awaiting a reply from Cancer uk regarding cancer rates per 100,000 people in specific age groups as I have a gut feeling (based on the observed deaths of young friends) that our world is toxic. The question of funding to discover what our corporate friends have no interest in uncovering is a serious one .

Edit....maybe Cuadrilla will pay for it !!!

There is evidence out there, but I don't have time to look it up right now (if you do, you could try searching via https://drillordrop.com/ which is a very good resource) - and as I said earlier, am remembering that this is supposed to be a thread on "trivial" issues, which fracking obviously isn't!
