We need to put him in a position where he's free to do his job of being creative in the final third of the pitch. Not needing to go back and defend, or constantly drop deep into midfield to fetch the ball. That way there is less risk of overstretch, less unnecessary running around, not getting caught up in brutal midfield encounters. And if he's enjoying success on the pitch, he might feel less of a need to push himself dangerously over the limit in training.
