Awful decision 13:28 - Feb 22 with 3679 views | GlasgowBlue | http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/22/supreme-court-ruling-due-challenge-fo "The Supreme Court has ruled that Government financial measures which are hitting British citizens who want foreign spouses or partners to join them in the UK do not breach human rights legislation". I understand the need to c rack down on bogus marriages, although I doubt there are that many to make a huge difference, but the decision is basically saying that if you meet somebody from a non EU country and fall in love then you are immediately suspected of fraud.

Awful decision on 17:26 - Feb 22 by GlasgowBlue | There is an easy and more fair way to deal with sham marriages. How about making the spouse’s right to reside in the UK dependent on the marriage lasting for a minimum of five years so that if the marriage ended in divorce the foreign spouse would have to return home. But it is wrong to penalise a spouse based on their earning potential.. |
It would be very easy to get around this. Couples should be able to provide proof that they've been together for a centre length of time, that they're a genuine couple etc. In Ireland sham marriages were taking place in Northern Ireland every day - people from the Republic were arranging these charades and booking them in for a quick town hall marriage across the border. Eventually the authorities got a hold of this and nipped it in the bud. Nobody has a problem with a genuine couple which is made up of in a UK national and a non EU national marrying and making their life here. However there was too much nonsense going on for it to be left alone with being vetted.

It's painfully obvious from your comments that you have absolutely no personal experience with this situation. Could I suggest you research it a little? Perhaps visit www.britcits.com for some real world examples.

do you believe in an open door, unrestricted immigration policy or do you believe there has to be some control? But have an up vote for making your answer short and sweet. This wasn't lost in me 😉 [Post edited 23 Feb 2017 8:13]

UK has restrictive laws on non EU partners that you highlight as wrong, and then you come to the point where you highlight the freedom of movement rules within the EU as the issue?

Because unlimited immigration from the EU has a knock on effect on rules created for non European migrants. Without freedom of movement we could have a far more grown up and sensible immigration policy which would be more more varied and fairer to migrants from further afield than Europe [Post edited 23 Feb 2017 9:26]

Awful decision on 13:59 - Feb 22 by No9 | You need to know someone in this position to understand just how bad it is & how much money some husabnds have spent on trying to bring their wives to the UK even though the children have British nationality. It all started after 2010 & is very unpleasant being handled overseas by agencies not British Consuls |
Got to be seen to be taking a hard stance on immigration to try and win those UKIP votes though... I know a few people affected by this and it's all a bit of a nonsense policy. I can't see how anyone benefits: it splits families, it's not actually impacting immigration at any meaningful level and we sometimes end up losing talented workers who give up and go an live with their families somewhere else.

This is another pliticolyl bit og garbage. There are already more Non EU immigrants coming here than E ' immigrants' & As the EU 'immigrants' often only come here for a short term to work for EU companies and are not counted out the numbers of EU 'immigrants' is greatly inflated. Now Mr Nrexit is saying that we will not be able to manage without EU 'immigrants' for many years. Jusy admit your lot have got this very wrong

Awful decision on 17:34 - Feb 22 by GlasgowBlue | Fact. We need controlled immigration but cannot control EU immigration due to freedom of movement. Therefore the controls are at the expense of non EU migrants. |
That is just nonsense. It is not a fact, it is your opinion, and a completely illogical one. There is no 'therefore' at all.
