Is the BBC website now just a Buzzfeed spin off? 12:24 - Feb 24 with 2231 views | wkj | I understand that times change, and so does the way we consume media, but one thing that really has irked me is the rise of trashy news sources like Buzzfeed; basically sites that start as click bait grabbers to get ad revenue, then suddenly come out as a “legitimate news agency” Now before you think “Woah there Trump Jr” I am not a supporter of his philosophies or him, quite frankly I find him vile and dangerous; though I do despise this kind of media and news agency. After spending a lot of time on the BBC website as my go to for “impartial news” I have noticed that more and more the website's look, regular quizzes, repulsive “things we love” features, and most horrible- anything under the BBC 3 banner, rise of using animated gifs as story reactions, and not to mention a few instances when BBC and Buzzfeed have investigated issues together. Long story short, I really don't trust the BBC website or its reporting anymore, and was curious if anyone else feels they look to be devolving more and more into a sort of Tabloid style of journalism. -KJ

I unfollowed the BBC Sport Twitter feed ages ago as it just seemed to retweet "Bantz" from morons with very rare bits of actual sports news.

As did I when all they seemed to be interested in was the life and movements of Joey Barton, mixed with whatever Robbie Savage had to say that day

This is true, yet sadly, the BBC are not any good at that either

Is the BBC website now just a Buzzfeed spin off? on 13:21 - Feb 24 with 1347 views | WeWereZombies | It's difficult to totally absolve the BBC from getting nudged by commercialism - half their air time (and web space) seems to be advertising their own output - which might not be sold for anything other than the licence fee to UK residents but does attract advertising revenue on BBC World outside the UK, and then there are the DVD boxsets, books, CDs etc. However, compared to the rubbish that gets served up in the USA (with the exception of PBS), France, Spain, New Zealand and just about everywhere else apart from Canada the BBC maintains a level of content significantly above media paid for by direct advertising in my opinion. There again, there did seem to be a lurch to the right straight after the Brexit vote, maybe they felt they had to reflect what they thought were the views of the electorate? Try Al Jazerra for international news that had a flavour of what the BBC used to be like (and also the ITV of 'World In Action' and 'Pilger Reports') but there is nothing like the content that the BBC has, their Sports section is woeful and bias shows through occasionally (a story on Indonesia's first ethnic Chinese prime minister being accused of disrespecting the Koran seemed a bit one sided when I read it). Apologies for dissing that video you posted up the other week btw, I meant what I said but I could have chosen my words better.

Is the BBC website now just a Buzzfeed spin off? on 18:55 - Feb 24 with 1205 views | caught-in-limbo | In 2011 I visited friends in the UK and we chatting while the evening BBC news was going on in the background. After a while, I piped up and said "what happened to the weather? I thought the weather always followed the news". "This is the News", I was told, "the weather is on in 10 minutes." "Why then are they using short depth of field camera work and playing heartstring pulling music? This isn't news, this is emotion-bending propaganda." "Oh, I hadn't noticed", came the reply. There is no definitive news source or trustworthy news outlet any more. The BBC does a lot of great programme making but its political content should be viewed alongside as many other varied sources as time will allow you, and then make your own mind up. FWIW, I used to be the Beeb's greatest fan, then something changed. [Post edited 24 Feb 2017 18:57]

I don't know because joking aside I never actually click any of that rubbish. I often click stories on politics though. I guess you're about to tell me it's a method of control to dumb people down or something? If so it's working.

I don't think there's an illuminati plot to dumb down the population - that's just silly. I do think there is an attempt to distract us from stuff that's really important, though.

Good points and actually because the State gives them their income, I do think they tend to side with the government to keep them happy The BBC is always likely to be progovernment despite in the past supposedly having had a left wing bias The Tories were proposing having 6 Tories on a board of 13, I fail to see how that will do anything for the BBC's supposed impartiality

Accusations of bias always come from those with unpopular views. You never hear people openly suggesting the BBC represents their views in terms of politics. It's been studied extensively and shown that "air time" "content" and even language used is fairer and more objective due to the guidelines the BBC has. Labour has basically became unpalatable. No one wants to hear what they have to say outside of a tiny insular minority. Decent left-wing people are now being overshadowed in the same way the minority of more moderate Tories were by UKIP and their party's lurch to lurch into the right side of the spectrum. Corbyn has proven himself completely unworthy of leadership and unsuited and the vacuum created by that filled by odious gobsh1tes. The fear the Tories had has proven to be totally misplaced. The sooner the Labour grassroots realise that, the sooner the BBC will "change" as right now what else is there to report upon. The Tories don't even need to make Labour look bad or cover their tracks too closely when it comes to political/cultural reporting in the news. That's the worst part about it all. When your media output is blaming electoral defeat on the weather, lack of cars and god knows whatever else, what is the BBC meant to do with that? Let alone the openly right wing media who will only amplify it. Simply put, the left-wing needs to start taking responsibility and get this bunch of bastards in power out, before we're building grammar schools, wondering what shade of fake tan Boris is now using or watching Paul Nuttall present Jackachuffingnory.
