Don't lend your car to your son and tell him to pass the time waiting for you to get from the plane to the drop-off in Sainsbury's at Hayes only to find he decided to use the Park Hotel because its closer. £60 parking charge.

The central terminals incl 3 are not accessible on foot, as the Tunnel under the northern runway, which is the public access, does not have a footpath. This site includes a list and map of Hotels offering stay and parking packages with prices. For all its claims of independence it is linked to a booking engine but it does provide a useful overview.

We've stayed at the Sofitel Terminal 5 and the Hilton Terminal 4, both built with walkways direct to the terminal, we haven't parked there but they did offer parking.
Buses/Train connections were quite good between terminals so maybe worth a look. |  |

Surely your best option is still parking at Gatwick?
Park at Gatwick (it's a lot cheaper) then Gatwick express into London, then Heathrow Express to T3 and you're within walking distance of T3 |  | | |
