The act of colourising the images will increase the apparent contrast, making them seem "sharper". These photos have been very well done, colourised pictures can sometimes look a bit "washed out".

Cote 304 was a battle in which some 10,000 men died in an area not much bigger than four or five football pitches, changing hands between Germans and French many times. It's now a heavily wooded hilltop.
