"For he is the King of Portman Road"

Unbelievably we had 2 of our greatest strikers of the past 30 years at the same time... and they weren't able to ever excel playing together.

A striker like him now would be worth well north of 10 million and a real shame we hadn't kept him to fire us back up once we got relegated

"Born is the King of Portman Road"

Johnson and Stewart simply couldn't play together could they.

They liked the same space though didn't they.

Hence the need for an effective foil like scowie or naylor to pull defences around.

Good days.

Bit of tear in the eye (2 tears in fact)

Firstly) We were bloody good that year
Secondly) We are so ordinary at the moment.

The year he arrived didn't he finish as top scorer for both us and Bury?

We should never have sold him - he went on to score regularly for Forest, just imagine if we had held onto him when we came back down. A great player, a real striker. You could have him play off of Scowie, Naylor and Stewart (and previously Mathie) and he always delivered.

Everyone on this forum is always wrong.

I was happy when he went off in The Play off final as they simply couldn't play together.

Well yes, and he was a bit over excited that day.

It was the Naylor show after that. His finest day.

I'd go as far as to say he is one of the most important signings we have made in the last 30 years.

Before Burley signed him, we were drifting somewhat (although nowhere near the extent we are now) and struggling to score goals.

Johnno came in and his pace, directness and goals completely re-invigorated us and proved to be the catalyst for our success from then on.

Seem to remember he and Mathie didn't click particularly on the pitch either, and led to the Scowcroft wars in the North Stand of the late 90s.

Read something in the paper this morning that his 16 year old son Brennan, who is at Nottm Forest, is wanted by Everton, but they might have to pay a million for him. What does that say that Andre, Josh & Myles are worth? Better not tell Mr Evans, or they won't be with us very much longer!

16 years old? He would have been conceived in Suffolk then....

was he like the Robert Earnshaw of his day?

Prolific at Championship level, couldn't do it in the Prem?

He was unlucky when we went up.... Bartez made a genuinely world-class save at home to Man U, he had one disallowed (vs. Sunderland?), had another one hit the post and another very good save from the GK away to Bradford.

Bam Bam was on fire that day. Great finish for his goal, quality touch in the build up to Stewarts header. Generally worked his bo11ocks off. What a menace.

That goal against Sunderland was wrongly disallowed as well

he never got a look in once stewart became prolific in the first season in the prem and then Burley bought Armstrong who was an inferior player but had a purple patch which ultimately saw jonno go to Forest. I actually think jonno would have made it in the prem had he been given the chance. My favourite player post Robson era along with Reuser, and Taricco.

It wasn't a myth, they were both great players but completely couldn't gel, I don't know why.

If Johnson hadn't have got injured for semi and final we would not have gone up.

Was his debut at Wolves?

You could tell straight away he was different class.

To think we paid £1.1M for David Johnson (an excellent signing) 20 YEARS AGO and we are still bidding the same amount for strikers now in 2017.
