You should watch Episode 1 of American Justice (Episode 2 is tonight).
In Episode One it's alleged that two blokes have broken into a flat and woken the resident up with a gun to his throat.
There's a bit of a ruckus. A neighbour comes in, with a gun, and shoots one intruder dead and wounds the other one.
Somebody is sent for trial. No, not the man who killed an intruder. The other intruder. 'Felony Murder' is the offence in Florida. And it's a capital offence.

If they've got a stand-your-ground law and that's what this is proven to be, then not over the top in the eyes of the law.
Shows what a crazy place it is. Although didn't we have our own burglar shooting farmer a fair few years ago?
And how stupid must the burglars be (have been - whoops)? In a country where there are multiple guns for every resident, I wouldn't dream of trying to burgle a house without at least a sub machine gun and bag full of hand grenades. |  |

That second line for me. Why would you gun down all three?
The article is short on details like what the confrontation was before he opened fire, and after he shot one, did the others then try to flee or move to attack him? If the former then surely he's no longer 'standing his ground'?
As it is with the US, it's crazy that a response to a burglar(s) being gunned down is, "well, they knew the risks". |  |
