Sorry, it's early. Going to be thinking about a flippant reason to get all five vowels in (plus 'Y' if I can manage it) now. #10 The council have knocked the Town centre about too much #11 The bloke sitting next to me at the Norwich game ignored his mates asking him to come and sit down at the front, went off for a pint at half time and came back with a pie and then fell asleep with a half-eaten pie in his hand.

12) the train system is sh1t Although that's a valid reason to be fair 13) our ground isn't sponsored 14) radio rich is a town fan 15) the queue for the greggs after the game at the station is always long 16) there's hardly any worldies at the train station (Newcastle station leads that competition this season)

burritogate..... on 16:35 - Mar 29 by monytowbray | Exactly. Dare I say Ipswich would really benefit with a hipster influx if it wants to get some culture. |
You mean what hipsters perceive as 'culture'? They end up pushing locals out of every place they take over and make it look like a copy of the last place they 'gentrified' (i.e. f**king over the local working classes by pushing prices up). This is not intended as a dig as I know you're been to one of the places but Ipswich doesn't need a bloody Cereal or Crisp restaurant. I agree it isn't good for live music and that the Town Centre needs a lot more work, I do think if you've been going to London a lot recently Ipswich is always going to disappoint when it comes to eateries (especially if you're Vegan!) There are a few decent places popping up if you look and they're at least starting to work on the Town Centre with some of the re-development happening. It depends what you're looking for though, if you're just after a non-adventurous bite to eat and a pub crawl there is nothing wrong with it. If you're after very specific cuisine and vibrant night life I agree it's probably going to be a bit lacking! I'm old enough and boring enough for the former to be enough for me and I live in Norwich which is decent for live music.

The Ipswich nightlife was far more vibrant 20 years ago, it still lacked a decent live music /arts venue, but you had choice. I think the problem with Ipswich is one of a wider issue, the younger generation just don't have the funds to spend on booze like we used to, also the way we socialise has changed dramatically over time, you don't need to go out to some overpriced hovel to meet people, you can do it in the comfort of your own home.

24) The River is ony navigable for a few yards further up stream to the weir, though a few years back there was a barge stuck on it for a while. That was fun. 25 )There is a krispy kreme kiosk in the buttermarket. you put 25 in twice and no 26. 28 - football is essentially a winter game. #60 There are people in Ipswich who go to gardens in Woodbridge and steal their garden gnomes, then hold those gnomes to ransom!
| |
burritogate..... on 11:07 - Mar 30 with 681 views | itfcjoe | I think Ipswich gets a raw deal - it's a very decent place to live. I think there is a very good food and bar selection both in the town and outside the centre, has good links to other places including nice beaches and plenty of nice walks etc When i was younger there were plenty of decent clubs for what I wanted, but youngsters don't go out any more - they sit at home drinking until 11 on Snapchat and just come in and go straight to one place - there isn't a sustainable market for young people bars so they are stuck with Wetherspoons if they are skint. I always have a good night out in town when I do go out, Arcade Tavern, Aqua 8, Degeros, K Bar, Thomas Wolsey are all good bars, or down at the Waterfornt with Isaacs on a nice day or Aurora. It's no surprise that people that run establishments aim them at those with more disposable income. I can't say much about the live music scene - but plenty of decent big name comedy here in 2017 there is Jack Whitehall, Ricky Gervais, Greg Davies, Russell Brand, Al Murray and Jimmy Carr At the end of the day though it is a provincial town without an established university
