Anyone been a guarantor before? 17:04 - Apr 10 with 1024 viewsRentaghost

Been one for over 2 years and never again. Luckily there landlord has said it's ok to not be one anymore . They were stating to owe money and now he is after them. Big learning curve.

For a close family member yes. Anything other than that, you're a fool.

No, it's asking for trouble unless it's a very close family member.

Truly impaired.

Not worth it.

I know of one case in Portugal. A good friend of mines Dad was guarantor for his nephew (who bought a house). He's been unemployed now for nearly 20 years and hasn't lost the house because others (including the guarantor) have stepped in time and time again. The guys a very good manipulator, and always has excuses. I speak to the Dad occasionally and he so wishes he never did it. Many of his own dreams have been destroyed.
