Smear might be taking it a little far. Are people openly and falsely accusing him of things, or just (rightly, or wrongly), taking the p!ss out of policy and personality?

On the first day of his Leadership, the Sun said he was going to scrap the army, surely that's a smear?

He's also apparently a Terrorist Sympathiser because he was part of group of MP's who tried to get dialogue going with the IRA, what nutters

See also the referendum campaign. She stayed out of it for the most part. It is more about her than any policy direction.

As for Corbyn. Car crash.

Agree with you and Badger and Stokie and anyone else who thinks he's ac car crash - it's hard to imagine a less popular leader from the electorate perspective. And the party are so wrapped up in their own power struggle that they seem to have forgotten that all of that will be irrelevant unless the electorate actually vote for them.

The policies (even if Corbyn doesn't know what they are) are irrelevant too if they're not electable.

From a neutral outsider perspective, it's hilarious and perplexing. David Miliband was the man, first time round. The fools.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It's all a bit silly.

It's not even as if his views are that radical in modern Europe. But for some reason our media and too many of the electorate have gone all American in our political leanings and our willingness to consume empty rhetoric and shiny PR.

So you're saying that he did condemn the IRA violence are you? Colin Parry, amongst many others, will be interested to hear that. He's a spineless weasel of the first degree who deserves everything the media can throw at him.

The majority of consensus politicians always believed the IRA terror campaign wasn't a good thing and was to be roundly condemned and eradicated. The fact that JC believed and still believes differently should be the only reason needed to make it inconceivable to vote for him or a party that would have him leader, no matter how many other cuddly and fluffy policies they come up with.

Given that he seems to be wholly ignorant of anything outside his own bubble and unwilling to engage with it I'm not actually convinced that the Dear Leader is the man his cult think he is, either.

Spot on.

Seems to be very much an Emperor's New Clothes situation.

What really, really finished Labour off for me as a voting option, was his group of cheerleaders foolishly cheering to the rafters the most trivial things when he made his live speech last Thursday morning. Just smacked of canned laughter equivalent, and momentum completely steering things.

The sheer stupidity of him announcing to the wide world that he'd never use nuclear weapons if he were PM, when his own party is committed to them, sums it up for me. He could have used an enigmatic statesmanlike one-liner such as "that would of course depend on the circumstances", but no, unable to keep the essential powder dry (sorry, not intended!) had to trumpet how 'principled' he is.

The media have no need whatsoever to paint him in a bad light, he just keeps scoring own goals, and of course the media covers them - would Libero rather they didn't? (sorry not to reply directly Libero, saving a secondary post here).

A poor excuse this, but I don't read, nor take any notice, of the Sun. That is clearly a smear then, based on a misrepresentation of Corbyn's stance. However, is this worse than anything that particular paper did with Red Ed?

Tbf Miliband took a lot of stick from the media for his odd looking appearance for some reason and yet there's not a word on the state of May. She's genuinely one of the strangest looking people I've ever seen look at the shape of her ffs.

Thought you were better than that.

And in terms of irrelevantly belittling people because of their appearance, two wrongs don't make a right.

Maybe because he keeps doing strange things? Maybe because his party have twice already had to come out later in the day and clarify Labour policy because he's made something up in an interview or speech which isn't actually the party policy? I can't remember any other party leaders doing that and if I've missed it then it certainly wasn't as frequently as JC. He's bringing a lot of this on himself.

There wouldn't be so much ammunition for the press and airtime if he didn't keep blundering.

Conversely, May should be out there more actually doing stuff, seems quite absent at the moment.
