Clubs with a high churn of Managers are often the most successful versus their aspirations. Chelsea, Norwich, Watford, Southampton are just a few examples and 3 of the 4 are similar size to us. It seems to me that having a good Owner or CEO is now these days in some ways more important than having a good Manager. With money being the main thing of course.

Norwich? Not sure they're working to the same sort of model as the others (although they're trying too now). Unless I missed Chelsea appoint the bloke who does the local radio commentary.

Having that solid plan from an owner/CEO, as you say is the most important part there. Southampton the most notable in terms of getting it absolutely spot on with a crystal clear vision which they implemented to pretty much perfection. Whilst he does give managers a bit too much time, I can't see regular changes of manager under Evans being particularly beneficial for us.

I wonder which Italian manger they'll appoint next? Mancini is out of work, wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the Prem

Haha but you know what I mean. They will be on their 6th Manager in the same time we have had Mick soon.

I think the money is the *most* important part but the guiding hand at the top of the club is absolutely vital now.

Watford seem to be want managers on a one year tenure on 14:11 - May 17 with 1379 views | Radlett_blue | Well, the Pozzos have had an extensive global scouting network for years & they've specialised in finding cheap talent, which they often sell on at a profit. Given the money available from the PL, no wonder they send their better players to Watford, rather than Udinese. They've also jettisoned Granada FC. With this model, no wonder they see the role of Watford first team coach as very much that, rather than the old fashioned English "manager" model.

A good owner/CEO/Chairman is absolutely key. The most important decisions that takes place in a football club occur at that level. Which manager to hire? When is the right time to sack a manager? When a signing is worth paying the extra? When is a singing not worth pushing the boat out? Get any of these wrong and the football suffers on the pitch (the most important thing) or the club is financially exposed.

What's the view down there on Swansea? They seem to have lost that control over what they're doing in the last couple of years. Such is the desperation to stay up.

Er, hard to sum up quickly. Generally the view is that the old board put personal gain above the interests of the club when they sold to the new American owners. It's hard not to agree with that. It seems that the supporters Trust were kept in the dark over the sale of the club despite being shareholders (c. 21% holding), and they weren't given the option to increase their share holding when the old board sold up. So a lot of bad feeling. Not helped by Huw Jenkins justifying the sale by saying it was to "take the club to the next level". Whereas the reality is that there is no extra money available; the new owners expect the club to be cost neutral with any purchases paid for out of income. Effectively they are worse off than us - the owners don't intend to subsidise any losses. Although obviously their income is in a different league. Huw Jenkins has been kept on by the new owners to run the club day-to-day. The fans are not happy with his overly-controlling manner, nor his managerial appointments or signings over the last couple of years. He seems heavily involved with choosing players, not just the financials of it. But he seems to have redeemed himself in the January window this year and with the appointment of Paul Clement. They feel like they've dodged a bullet down here and they are hoping lessons will be learnt, particularly the manager will be allowed a greater say in player recruitment. They're also hoping for some quality signings, but they'll be disappointed I expect as Huw Jenkins went on record this week saying there won't be much activity in the summer. They play is better now though - they do seem to have a manager who can get them back to playing football, even if he's a bit more defensive minded than the great stuff they used to play under Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup.
