Stop the 'Dementia Tax' on 22:11 - May 22 with 1259 views | WeWereZombies | That needs to be a YouGov poll to have credibility, just collecting names to press for voting intentions otherwise. On the subject of this sorry debacle I was listening to the lunchtime news on Radio Four earlier (around lunchtime, I think) and the latest spin is that the dementia tax is just a proposal for a committee to come up with a finished plan on - so how do you keep from breaking your manifesto promises? Put something in the manifesto that a nameless committee will concoct and then you can reject their plan if it too unpopular and try it another way.

The tories have always broken manifesto promises e.g the last manifesto pledged to keep the UK in the EU / single market etc. Which is why when they lost the referendum they should have had a GE then. Under normal circumstances anything in the manifesto would be go through the HoC and committee stages before it became law BUT with a huge majority they could get anythign through and historically the Lords have not challenged anything in the manifesto, you can see the dilemma so this still has to be fought along with other nasty policies. NOne of this would be necessary if they had not driven down wages and deprived the young of the means to earn enough money to contribute to the UK's finances
