You imagine if he'd hired someone of that calibre instead of Keane, where would we be? Stable in the Premier League in my view.

Most PL clubs don't make a profit unless they make a significant sale. For example, Chelsea lost £34m in their last accounts and Arsenal only made £25m profit. Clubs tend to live to their budget, although some small clubs like Burnley do make a profit, but then struggle against relegation most of the season [Post edited 28 May 2017 11:40]

I suspect any medium sized club in the Premiership who are prudent can run at a profit. The TV rights now are so vast, you must struggle to spend it all? Swansea for example must be rolling in it

Most clubs make a loss, some make a huge loss. Competing means spending more, so trying to run breakeven generally will mean relative sporting failure. Sadly. There are notable exceptions, but the principle generally holds good. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Most of us were delighted when Keane was appointed.

Even if most clubs make a loss the money isn't just used on buying players - The ground can be improved, whether that is increased capacity, better facilities, better training facilities, acamedy structures etc. Agree most clubs will spend the money and live to the budget that they have obtained, the parachute payments give a great safety net and advantage to get back to the Premier League, just a season in the top flight would benefit us immensely. Believe Middlesbrough will get nearly £180m for their one season. Approx £97m for finishing 2nd bottom, £45m parachute payments this season and a further £35m if they don't go straight back up. Be interesting to know what sort of investment Gibson put in to get them up?

It's frankly remarkable. Potentially around three thousand season ticket holders have walked away and Evans is refusing to do anything about one of the biggest reasons why - McCarthy and his negative style.
