Yeah, true. Delap moving onto 9 yellow cards via an 85th minute booking to just relieve his frustrations seems particular silly though. All it achieved was wasting time and getting the home crowd going.

i don't think they needed much of an excuse, hutch's appalling behaviour in not having a broken leg energised them more than o'shea and delap!

As a Town fan that sat in amongst the United fans last night, this is entirely correct. Could feel how tense they were at the start of the second half, and we simply gifted them a lead to hold on to. Having been to OT a few times in recent years, that's the most I've ever seen (or heard) the United fans properly up for it. Was clear they were desperate for a win and willed their own players on.

Greaves holding his head vs spurs, to sit up to watch them score, then back down again. Burgess would never…

Absolutely wild that that is the most their crowd have been up for a game. They were awful, other than probably three moments where one of their players waved their arms and they all shouted then sat down again. Personally, I like what Delap does and did late on. We were flat and needed something to get ourselves going and that could have been it. Just didn't work out.

You liked the fact he did a ridiculous foul at about 85 mins to let tem waste about 2 minutes while we are chasing the game? Maybe about 25 mins earlier yeah if thats what it takes to get him going.

I agree. I thought it was flat as hell until they started showboating at the end! Disagree on Delap though. 2 game ban on the way. Not worth it.

It shouldn't be like that but it is. It's the delap show. He will pop up with a goal every now and again as any striker does but his lack of passing and the desire to take every ball and run at players doesn't seem to help the team the rest of the team. Somewhere between Delap is amazing and the hyperbole of this post, is a middle ground where there's a valid point. He doesn't do nothing else, but he is trying too hard. Sadly, he's a level or two above most of our squad and maybe that's frustrating.

I know what you're saying, but to be fair he played a crucial role in Philogene's second goal.

Everything he touched turned to gold at the start of the season. So he’s still trying those things… just without the unsustainable levels of gold. That can definitely look selfish / greedy, but it comes from a good place.

And approaching 23 years old, he's not a spotty arsed teenager who will learn in time. Might become a real issue in his progression. If he can channel it it could be an amazing asset, but without the focus it becomes a burden and a problem.

'Plays the game for himself' is true. I said last season to a friend of mine that he's quite a selfish player and I stand by that. Its not necessarily a bad thing if its used in the right way but often he doesn't.

Without his selfishness we'd have probably finished with less points than Southampton last season.

You might well be right, he was a beast and often the standout player in all of our better results and performances. As I say its not always a bad thing and you wouldn't want to train that out of him completely as his fearless aggression is what makes him so dangerous. I think one thing he needs to learn is to get that balance right, especially now with better quality players around him.

You need a striker to be a bit selfish but I think he almost started the season too well, which sounds nonsense admittedly but I think he enjoyed being the surprise main man, the wildcard in the league that everyone was looking at, and he started a) trying to be the hero too much and b) playing for his next career move, trying to pad his own numbers.

I agree. I think he knew from pretty early on he was going to leave if he could maintain the form he was showing. I did sense he was playing for the name on the back rather than the badge on the front at times, especially when it was quite obvious we weren't staying up.
