New Town signing Martin Brittain has revealed that he turned down the chance to remain at Newcastle United. Brittain signed a one-year deal with the Blues earlier today.

The 21-year-old midfielder told the club site: "I could have stayed at Newcastle. They offered me a new contract for a year, but I decided the time was right to move on.

"I went to Coventry and Hull in pre-season as well as Ipswich, but I have really enjoyed the two weeks here and it's easily the best club I have been at during the summer.

"I spoke to Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble about Ipswich and they said it would be a great club for me to join, and I can't wait to get going.

"I could have have had another year at Newcastle but I want to play first team football and it didn't look like it was going to happen there.

"Ipswich have given me that opportunity and want to repay them for that this season."

Brittain, who also had trials at Kilmarnock and Brighton, is expected to be named in the squad for Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Peterborough. The Blues are unable to field Mark Noble and Simon Walton at London Road under the terms of their loan agreements.
