Town have named new signing Martin Brittain in the squad for Tuesday's Carling Cup first round tie at Peterborough United (KO 7.45pm). Also included in Jim Magilton's 19-man travelling party is young midfielder Liam Trotter.

Trotter, a member of the 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning side, made his senior debut in last season's final game at Plymouth.

The Blues are unable to field loanees Simon Walton and Mark Noble in the Carling Cup, while Gavin Williams has a toe injury. Striker Alan Lee, who was not names in the Republic of Ireland squad earlier today, is also left out.

Owen Garvan remains on the sidelines with a post-viral syndrome, but Billy Clarke returns after suffering a dead leg in last week's reserve game with the MK Dons.

Striker Sam Parkin is also in the squad despite being on the verge of a move to Luton or Preston.

Boss Jim Magilton says he is taking Town's 150th League Cup tie seriously: "The game gives us an ideal opportunity to boost our confidence and build on Saturday's first point of the Championship season.

"I will make changes, but we will be going there to win. A passage into the next round will set us up nicely for Friday's league game at QPR."

Magilton will continue with Lewis Price in goal, while Alex Bruce may get an opportunity at centre-half. Northern Ireland U19 international Chris Casement may also get a run-out in the backline.

New man Brittain could well get a start on the right of midfield, although Magilton may be keen for Jaime Peters to keep his place after a promising display against Hull.

Central midfield will certainly see changes with Noble and Walton unavailable, Trotter perhaps being handed a first start alongside Matt Richards or Darren Currie.

Up front, Danny Haynes is likely to come in for Alan Lee, while Billy Clarke and Dean Bowditch may also come into the Town manager's plans.

Peterborough boss Keith Alexander expects a tough match: "Ipswich may not have had a good start to the season, but they will be extremely difficult opposition. They always play good attractive football and have been challenging for promotion in pretty much every year for the past decade, and of course they have played in the Premier League.

"We have made a decent start to the season and this game will be an interesting game against Ipswich because it will show how much the lads have progressed. I hope the fans come down and support us because the fans have already played a massive part."

Alexander is without Danny Crow who has an ankle injury while Justin Richards is a doubt. Lloyd Opara is suspended.

Tuesday's referee is Keith Hill from Hertfordshire who has shown three yellow and no red cards in his two games so far this season. His last Town game was the 2-0 home win over Preston North End in February 2004.
