Boss Jim Magilton says that Irish U21 star Stephen Ward is a player the Blues will continue to watch after the transfer window closes. Town have been keeping an eye on the Bohemians frontman for a while but will not be making a move for the striker or winger before the end of the week.

Magilton said: “Steve McCall, our chief scout, went over to see him playing on Friday night, and both Bryan Klug and myself will go and see him at some point.

“We are following up our interest but nothing is going to happen this week. He's one for the future.”

Town are likely to have a representative at the Ireland U21 side's UEFA Championship qualifier against Belgium at Terryland Park, Galway on Friday. Ward and Town defender Alex Bruce are both in the squad for the game which is being covered live by Sky Sports.

Magilton is continuing to look for players to add to his squad and has not ruled out Liverpool's Neil Mellor joining on loan, although he faces competition from Preston North End.

The Town boss has spoken to the Reds' reserve team manager Gary Ablett regarding Mellor but has made no official contact with his former club.

Magilton is also seeking to extend Simon Walton's one-month loan spell, something which may be more likely if the Addicks complete the loan signing of Uruguayan midfielder Omar Pouso.

West Ham have ruled out fellow loanee Mark Noble remaining with the Blues longer than the initial three months.

Magilton is also looking at adding to his defensive options, although Walton remaining at Portman Road for a longer spell may put this on hold until January.

The Blues are waiting on Sylvain Legwinski's decision on whether to accept the contract offered after his week's trial.
