Legwinski's Town Memories

Sylvain Legwinski's childhood memories of Sir Bobby Robson's Town side were amongst the reasons the Frenchman decided to join the Blues on a two-year deal. Legwinski recalls Town defeating French side St Etienne 3-1 at Portman Road on their way to the 1981 UEFA Cup.

Legwinski told the club site that the modern Town and Jim Magilton's plans also caught his imagination: "I spent a few days here on trial and was very impressed with the facilities and the way the gaffer wanted to play the game.

"I watched the way the team played against QPR on Friday as well and liked what I saw, so there was no reason not to come here.

"It is a drop down from the Premiership, but it's a new challenge for me and one I'm looking forward to.

"I don't know much about Ipswich, although I did play here for Fulham a few years back. My first memory of Ipswich was when they beat St Etienne 3-1 in the UEFA Cup. That was amazing to me because at that stage I thought St Etienne were the best team in the world."
