Boss Jim Magilton was delighted to have finally signed Jon Macken on loan from Crystal Palace. Irish international Macken is with the Blues until January and became Magilton's last signing of a hectic transfer window.

Magilton told the club site: "Jon's the sort of player I have been looking to bring in.

"He can hold the ball up front and bring other players into the game, and has proved that he can score goals as well.

"I have watched his career since he first burst on to the scene at Preston, where he scored a lot of goals.

"Manchester City paid £5 million for him and I know Kevin Keegan rated him very highly when he was manager there.

"The last year or so probably hasn't worked out for him as well as he would have liked, and sometimes when a player gets in that situation a change of scenery can do a power of good.

"He's coming here determined to do well for this football club and knows the way I want to play football. I'm sure he will suit us and we will suit him."

Elsewhere, released Town midfielder Vemund Brekke Skard failed to find a club prior to the transfer deadline. The midfielder's possible move to Ham-Kam was scuppered by the Hamar-based side landing Dane Morten Bertolt on loan from FC Copenhagen. Having been released by the Blues, Skard is free to join a new club outside the transfer window.

The only former Town player on the move on deadline day was last season's loanee Ricardo Fuller who has joined Stoke from Southampton for an undisclosed fee.
