Boss Jim Magilton has missed out on the September Championship Manager of the Month award. The gong went instead to former Blue and current Colchester manager Geraint Williams.

Chris Kamara, the chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Geraint Williams is doing a fantastic job at Colchester.

"It was a difficult opening month or so for him as he only got appointed just before the start of the season and lost a couple of key players in the August transfer window.

"But the U's have produced some fantastic performances in September and Geraint deserves all the plaudits for the way in which he has masterminded their superb unbeaten run."

Williams made 264 appearances for the Blues between 1992 and 1998, scoring three times. The Welshman took over from Phil Parkinson at the beginning of the season having previously been his assistant at Layer Road.
