Brechin City 2-2 Town
Brechin City 2-2 Town

Billy Clarke and Matt Richards scored the goals as Town drew 2-2 with Brechin City at Glebe Park in a game to celebrate the Scottish side's centenary. Clarke put the Blues in front but the home side came back to go ahead with two goals before the break, only for Richards to score a late equaliser.

Clarke's goal came in the 12th minute, a sharply taken edge of the area shot on the turn.

But Brechin discovered Town's achilles heel at the centre of the defence and hit back, first through Stuart Callaghan in the 32nd minute and then via Charlie King before half-time, although there was a suspicion of handball.

The second half saw a succession of changes with all Town's squad of 17 used plus manager Jim Magilton, with the exception of Jason De Vos.

Fabian Wilnis started the game at right-back and went off for a while before returning at the centre of the defence alongside Simon Walton

Late on, Richards scored a well worked goal, Clarke having played in Walton, who crossed for the England U21 international to volley home from six yards.

Billy Clarke was among Town's best performers and came close to second when he grazed the woodwork. Simon Walton also impressed in a game played largely in testimonial mode until Jim Magilton's introduction with 10 minutes to go. The Town manager was determined to score from a late freekick but failed to trouble the crossbar.

A good workout for the youngsters introduced after the break in particular, although by no means the toughest of games played on a bumpy and wet pitch not really conducive to passing football, in front of around 15 travelling fans, many of whom contributed to this report via text and phone.

Scottish First Division side Ross County were due to watch Scott Barron in action with a view to taking the left-back, who came on at half-time, on loan.

Town: Supple, Wilnis, Harding, Naylor, Bruce, Richards, Legwinski, Walton, Currie, Macken, Clarke. Subs: Magilton, Barron, Moore, Brittain, Bowditch, Sito. Unused: De Vos.
