Boss Jim Magilton felt the Blues were below par but most importantly won the game and progressed to round four of the FA Cup. The Town manager also had praise for Chester City.

Magilton said: "The only thing that really mattered was the result. Had we lost it would have been devastating.

"We lacked zip in our play but credit to Chester who played very well and got men behind the ball."

Chester boss Mark Wright was happy despite losing: "I was more than proud of my players. We have been playing well for a while now and not getting our just rewards.

"Ipswich are a great side. I don't think we were ever comfortable, but my boys gave a solid performance and dug in. This was somewhere for them to come and enjoy because our bread and butter is in the league.”
