Williams: I Can Leave
Williams: I Can Leave

Midfielder Gavin Williams says he has been told he can leave the club by manager Jim Magilton. Yesterday the Town boss was quoted saying the former West Ham and Yeovil man wouldn't be sold unless the Blues received a very large offer.

Williams said: The manager told me he was prepared to listen to offers for me and that I can go. I was really surprised to hear that because I feel I have been doing well.

“I have no intention of leaving for the sake of it. I like it here. I think Ipswich is a great club and I feel we are going places.”

Alan Lee was told the same in the wake of the unauthorised trip to Amsterdam earlier in the month.

There were hints that there might be transfer activity involving the pair when Magilton claimed interest in the duo shortly after the players' controversial break in the Dutch capital.

Last weekend Welsh tabloids reported that Town's FA Cup opponents Swansea and Cardiff have both shown interest in Williams, who is contracted to Town until 2009.

Magilton may be keen to raise cash for sales in order to bring in a new striker. Earlier in the week, chief scout Steve McCall said that the Blues had been quoted high prices when approaching clubs regarding transfer targets.

Meanwhile, reported Town target Leon Constantine has declined a move to Barnsley and looks to be staying at Port Vale until his contract is up at the end of the season. Interest from the Blues seemed unlikely with the former Southend man significantly older than Jim Magilton's usual targets.

Leeds striker David Healy, widely tipped to be on Jim Magilton's January list, is claimed to be interesting Premiership sides Wigan, Sheffield United and Watford.

Elsewhere, former Town striker Kevin Wilson has been sacked as manager of Nationwide Conference North side Hucknall Town after just 11 months in charge. Ex-Town loanee Andy Legg has temporarily taken over as boss.
