Town have announced their intention to appeal against George O'Callaghan's red card at Watford. The Irishman, making his first Town start, was sent off just before half-time after a promising display in the Blues' five-man midfield.

Boss Jim Magilton said: “We have now seen the incident on TV and video and feel we must show solidarity with George, who is heartbroken over his red card.

“We are appealing on his behalf as his actions were not worthy of a sending off.”

Town's appeal must be lodged by 1pm today with the three-man commission, which won't include referee Steve Bennett, likely to sit on Thursday. O'Callaghan's three-match ban for violent conduct will be suspended until after the appeal is heard and the former Cork City man will be available for Tuesday's home game with Wolves.

Meanwhile, Danny Shittu, the Watford defender who clashed with O'Callaghan and who video evidence suggests raked his studs down the Town midfielder's back in the incident, has given his side of the story: "There were a few words said in the tunnel at half-time, although I was one of the first players to get back in the dressing room.

"I went in for a header with O'Callaghan. I landed on him and as I got up he lashed out and kicked me on my back.

"It seems a bit harsh but if you react like that you have to be sent off."

TWTD spoke to O'Callaghan at the end of last week for the new issue of the fanzine, number 86, which is out ahead of Tuesday's home game with Wolves.

Town's new signing talks about his time with Port Vale and Cork City, his hopes for the future, Phil 'The Power' Taylor and Robbie Williams.

The fanzine will be available from our sellers around the ground prior to kick-off, by Sir Alf, Planet Blue and the Portman Road entrance to the Greene King Stand.

Alternatively, a six-issue subscription can be obtained here, either for a small amount of cash or via a free offer.
