Michael Synnott has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland U21 side's final game at the Madeira invitational tournament against Portugal on Friday after chipping a bone in an ankle.

Synnott won his first U21 cap in the 2-2 draw with Madeira on Wednesday.

Having had four players named in the initial squad, the Blues now have no one remaining with the Irish party. Owen Garvan and Shane Supple were completely withdrawn, while Billy Clarke returned to Portman Road after Monday's 1-0 victory over Slovakia.
