Blues to Face Burton

Town will travel to Conference side Burton Albion for a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, 10th July (KO TBC).

The Blues plan to field a different side in each half against the Brewers, who are managed by former Nottingham Forest and England star Nigel Clough.

Former Blue David Johnson was on trial at the Pirelli Stadium last week having retired from professional football due to a back injury earlier in the season. However, the striker has now joined Conference North club Hucknall Town where former Blues loanee Andy Legg is manager and Tony Vaughan is on the playing staff.

TWTD understands that Town will start pre-season training earlier than ever before this summer, on June 12th.

Amongst the other pre-season games, the Blues are likely to take on Bury Town in a game agreed as part of the deal which saw Ian Miller move to Portman Road.

Town offered Cork City a friendly as part of the negotiations regarding George O'Callaghan's switch to Portman Road, but we understand that the Eircom League side decided against it, preferring instead to receive a larger fee, which took the deal to around the £70,000 mark.
